help on LX9

First, I’m not new to flashers, I’ve owned three previous to my LX5, and now an LX9. I have fished the same jig as in the photo with the 5 and had no issues picking it up in 15 fow or less and not having the gain turned up past 3 max. I took the LX9 out this afternoon in 16 fow. I could not pick up the jig past 10 feet unless the sensitivity was around 22 and the target adjustment was at 6 or so. I was marking fish, I even caught a fish but was not absolutely sure the jig with two spikes was above or below the fish in 12 fow. The ducer was below the ice, I had the line as verticle as I could next to the ducer cord, I tried both cones, had 12.5 volts and battery was fully charged and still can’t figure it out. I was kicking myselft for not recording what I was seeing so I could share it better with you. I could mark the jig as it was going down, but it would “fade” into nothing around 10 feet or so. I’ve tried reading the manual again after 3 reads but am still baffled. Again, is it the jig, something I’m not doing correctly that someone else is picking up? Thanks for the help.

The gain curves are completely different in the LX5 versus the LX9. Since you can’t compare the two you can’t use the same gain settings from the 5 on the 9.

When fishing small jigs in 3 color mode expect your gain settings to be in the “teens” on the 9. My suggestion is to put your LX9 in 6 color mode which makes your LX9 50% more sensitive. Once you’ve made that switch expect your gain setting to drop considerably. Typically I run a setting of 7 – 9 on even the tiniest jigs in deeper water and almost never run in 3 color mode any more.

Give the 6 color palette a try. I think you’ll like it.

From the man himself!….greatly appreciated James. Great shows, great feedback and its your shows that made me a believer in the products you support. Thanks again, I’ll have to give your advice a try and keep up the good work.

Always happy to help. If you liked your LX9 before trying 6 color mode expect to be blown away after the switch. And thanks for the comments on the shows. Knowing that people like what we’re doing makes us work that much harder to put out a good product.

Holler if you have any additional questions.

I use the 6 color mode on my lx7 what makes it 50% more sensitive? Detail is great too.

The addition of the extra colors allows the unit to display smaller / more faint targets that are basically ignored in 3 color mode.

Think of it like this, in 3 color mode you have the ability to display the following targets; large, medium and small.

In 6 color the additional colors allow the unit to display large, medium, small… Extra Small, Freakishly Tiny and Microscopic.

It really is that simple. The capabilities of the transducer and receiver don’t change when you switch color palettes. The additional colors represent smaller targets in the water column and we’re able to take advantage of that as anglers by turning down our gain, eliminating clutter or interference, and still having a solid return displayed for our lure and any fish in the water column.

Perfectly explained thanks James. What a unit it is to. Only had it a week, after using a lx5 which is a great unit this 7 is quite the package.

Geez, Hamms. Between your posts here and on ice shanty, you got me really wanting to get the lx-7. I have been on the fence about getting one again. I had one but had to return it before I got to use it. Gonna keep my 5 tho.

If you watched the video I posted up of from the LX-9 a few weeks ago of the sauger and walleyes around the wing dams, you’ll see occasional micro – sized things floating by. In the pic, you’ll see the blue lines on the chart and a fish that is just about off the screen. Most of the time I was running the wing dams, I had the setting on around 8-10. When I went over that (13-15) any little particle floating by would show up.

Just about everything you mentioned, to the last bug, has been fixed in the latest release.

In the 1.29 I would maybe have a screen freeze once in about 8 hours of operation. So far on 1.31 I haven’t had any

The solution was the 6 color palate….gain was 4 to 5 max with target adjustment of 2. Jig in the original picture was easily seen in 16 fow. Thanks for all the help.

I have updated to 1.31 and still have had an occasional freeze-up. Pretty awesome unit. My VX-1 Pro has not been totally retired yet. Size is a bit bulky when seriously hole hopping.

Today I recorded tons of great panfish footage, but while viewing it I have had numerous freeze-ups. Also, when I remove the micro card(after switching to the eject SD)and install it into my adapter, my computer will not read it. I had to have a buddy do the update to 1.31 for the same reason. Any computer geeks out there know why?? I can plug my SD cards that I recorded with my Aqua-Vu DVR and they play just fine.
Normally when I put an SD in my reader and go to My Computer, I get drive options like G,H, and I. With my Aqua-Vu clips I click (I) and go to the DCIM to view all of my recordings. Was hoping to be able to do the same with the recordings from my LX-9. Anyone?? I would really like to share the incredible clips that I have on the new LX-9.

Not sure I know what to tell you other than try a different card reader. I haven’t had any issues viewing clips on my computer that were recorded in my 9.

I will try another reader tomorrow. Hopefully that does it. The clips that I got today need to be shared. They will help make up the minds of those thinking about taking the plunge to purchase one.
I had a guy jump in the shack today just to give him a preview, a half hour later he was leaving to pack up his gear knowing that his flasher was not going to get the job done as well as the camera. Great tool when the fish have lockjaw, but are busy window shopping!

What operating system are you running? I have XP and like I said the SD card from my Aqua-vu DVR plays fine. I was also unable to do the update to 1.31 on my computer, yet a friend had no problem.

I Got The Opportunity To Use My New Lx9 For Three Days Straight Last Week. I Have Version 1.31 Installed And It froze Up Twice Per Day. Not Much Of A Big Deal As I Just Shut It Off And Restarted It. Luckily There Were No Fish On The Screen When This Happened. I Hope They Get This Fixed Soon Or It May Be Sent In.

Just got back from an ice fishing weekend up north and I was a bit disappointed when the LX-9 went down. I had awesome fishing that would have made for some great video, but my 9 suddenly loss use of the function button. As all owners know, this thing is useless without the ability to page thru options.

I have contacted Marcum via email and also left a message. So far not a reply from either! How long should I expect to wait before hearing back from them?

I’d keep calling, that happened to me a few weeks back and with some persistent calling I finally got through. I stopped up there a couple weeks ago and they said its pretty slow right now so they should be able to provide a quick answer once you get them on the line.
