I have an older otter cabin that I bought used, it has seen alot of fish since I got it and im sure it has seen a lot before me. It has some tears in the old fabric and I was wanting to upgrade it to a newer fabric. Can I just buy the new stuff or do I need to buy the poles as well? The bottom pole closest to the ground is not curved. It is straight. If I have to buy both I would think it may be cheaper to sell this one and buy a new sled with the new thermal skin. I just purchased a hyfax kit so i would hate to sell it if I dont have to. Has anybody done a swap here? If so any tips would be helpful, Thanks.

I would maybe email Otter and ask them the dimensions of the poles required for the new tent. I emailed them a few weeks ago and asked them if I would need new poles for the tent and they said I would. However, I didn’t explain to them that my Cabin had the square poles, as some have indicated that the older models had round poles. I have been meaning to ask them for the dimensions but keep forgetting. If you hear back please let me know. The got back to me within the day so you may have an answer soon.

Take a look at this thread as this popped up from someone who did buy a new tent for the old poles. Otter Thermal Issue

It’s not worth the money to replace it. the cost is almost as much as a new complete package, sell the old one and put the money you make off it into a new one.

I just got done working at the Duluth Sports Show last week for Otter and I was asked this question about 10 times and it is not worth your time and money trying to convert your old house. The poles are a bit different sized and it will not fit exactly how it should. I reccomend selling your old house outright and then putting that towards a new thermal house which you will love. I have sold numerous older houses online and people fight over them. You will be much happier in the new house. For the cost of the poles and thermal canvas it is not worth you money to be in a half new house to some degree. Its a good problem to have.

    Good luck fishing,

    Jake

Ok. What is a good asking price for an older otter cabin? The only problem with it is there is a couple small holes in the fabric. Its got the old seats in it but everything is in good shape. And its purple. I’m not much of a purple fan but when my buddies come to the lake they have no problem finding me. Maybe that’s a selling point?

Put some horns on it and you could bump up the price for a Vikes fan
