Hi I don’t know if anyone will be able to help out with my question. But I am working and staying for a couple weeks in Chamberlain south Dakota right next to the Missouri river. I seen a couple people ice fishing out there and I was just wondering if anyone knows what species of fish this area holds because I would like to get out and do some fishing if anyone has any tips on what to fish for and how to fish it? Thanks for any help
    you can provide

Big Walleye area. I’m sure there are other species also.

depends on how close to shore, shallow water can be some big pike, or panfish, out deeper walleye, depends on how thick the ice.

Chamberlain is Walleyes, Walleyes, and more Walleyes

river is open threw town (NOW) with some ice on the banks

nice days boats put in up by the dam till ice goes out of marina

there is a spillway that stays iced up for away

then U can check up above (Lake Sharpe) 4 ice

stop by the Hillside Motel – get some minnows and great up 2 date info there

if U are coming into town from the east – take 1st exit and then a right to go into town

It well B on your left before going down the hill

Casey cafe (if still open) and Al’s Oasis (accross the river) for places to eat

1/4 , 5/16th , 3/8 oz jigs or lighter if your good at it

your have some current there and if in a boat vertical jig with it

I use to use alot of fuzzy grubs in Chartruese – but they did not have a 5/16th’s size

they have the bit a hair on them – always had a minnow on 2

I went to just a plain leadhead color jigs that I poured myself and a better larger hook

Liked the 5/16th size the most for that area

with a light gray colored body and a minnow – caught lots of fish on them

hillside will point you to the general area to start with

Hope to make it up there next month myself

Better add that U can shore fish close to town too when ice is off

casting swallow running plugs works in the low light times

U will see people all over – shore fishing when the spawn is on – bobbers and minnows also
