Starting to Get Some Anxiety

First, the last episode of IDO Ice fishing a couple weeks back. Now this is the last weekend for “sport fish” in MN. What am I going to do once the ice melts? I don’t have a boat to fish open water, I am starting to have serious anxiety issues thinking about the end of the ice season…

Anyone else struggling with this? Maybe we could start a support group…

I think we’ll be ice fishing into April this year the way things are going. Lots of time yet and some of the best fishing of the season yet to come.

I love fishing in march and later… Sweatshirt is all you need and fishing is good in those spawn staging areas. Remember we’re all in this together

I sure hope you’re right James! On that note, are there any lakes in the Metro that are decent for “late” ice? I have my first kid due in May and want to fish late ice, but only if I feel 100% safe (I know DNR there is no such thing as safe ice…).

Rainy could be a tough one this year. I want that to happen as much as you so let’s pray for some thaw/freeze cycles late Feb and through March to start and knock down some of the snow pack up there.

Plenty of shore spots on the local rivers open up early for fishing. No need for a boat.

Keep your stick on the ice.

If it ain’t broke, you ain’t trying.

If she don’t find you handsome, she should at least find you handy.

Congratulations I just started bringing my oldest of two on the ice this season. Something about a child’s smile will make nothing else in the world matter.

I’m in the same boat too I feel like it was just last week I would stare at the river at work watching it ice over …Now theres only a month or so left, all you can do is get out as much as possible…One cheap way to get on the open water, get a kayak, thats what I did a couple years back extremely fun to fish out of, especially back in bays throwing frogs… throw some beer in the storage hatch strap it on the car and go, nothing more fun…got mine for less than $300…

That would be fun! Going to look for one. My dad said he had the best walleye fishing of his life out of a canoe with a buddy down a river up north. Said there would have been no way to get there by boat. Since then he bought a 12 ft boat with 6 hp for getting into those hard spots on the local river . Nice option to go with his bigger boat.
