Just finished watching the Crappie episode with James and Koonce and read a lot of good reports/posts on the TUC rods. I checked their website out and looks like it is comparable to TB rods. The question for me is can/will they make any of their rods for panfish hole hopping longer than 36 inches? The site says only up to 36 inches on the rods id be interested in. Second and final question for those that have these rods, does anyone have a recommendation for what model to buy to pair with a spring tip/bobber? Im not ready for the switch to a rod with no spring bobber yet. Thanks for any replies.

The best thing you can do is contact them directly. John has answered all of my questions almost instantly.
John burback (651) 341-1129February 15, 2013 at 5:05 pm #1142279I build all my own rods, so I can not speak specifically to either of those builder. However I don’t fish any panfish rods shorter than 40″ for the similar reason you stated. I personally would forward to having the correct action rod that you want for when you eventually part ways with a spring. The beauty of it is a pen spring or a variation of one can easily be wrapped at the tip section. It will slightly affect the tip action of the rod, but your already using the visual aid of the spring. I would learn to wrap, which is easy after you do a few guides to get tha hang of it. Then a dab of super glue or color preserver to hold the threads when you want to replace it. Just a thought

February 15, 2013 at 6:18 pm #1142316Thanks for the replies guys, I’ll probably be contacting TUC in the near future. Randy where/how did you learn to wrap etc. I’ve always wanted to learn how to because I have some blanks that I would like to make into actual fishable rods, haven’t ever took the time to investigate much into wrapping just wondering how you started out and learned? Or did you just experiment?
February 15, 2013 at 6:30 pm #1142320I learned back around 1980 by a neighborhood guy that fixed rods. From there it just grew until a buddy opened a DIY store for everything from building rods, lures, plastics. I’m not sure of what is available in your area, but doing some rod building class searches should turn up something. For years I’ve thought about doing a few rod building “how-to” vids and just never made the time. There is some stuff out on Youtube already. Still nice to meet up with someone and have them critique your work. Biggest thing beside straight guides on the spine is wrapping too tight. Just tight enough to hold them firmly in place is key. I’ve seen some nice loomis blanks crushed from guys wrapping too tight.

Check youtube, lots of viseos on anything you want.
February 15, 2013 at 6:36 pm #1142324Man I hate to be a nay say’er or go against TUC since I LOVE my noodle… but if you are going to use a spring, I don’t think you need to spend the money for a TUC. I would instead look at a fenwick elite ice and then add your own st. croix spring system or single wire. But when you decide to take that leap to the noddle rod, TUC is where its at! You can see the lightest little bites. A 1/100th jig loads the rod so you can see an upbite.
February 15, 2013 at 7:02 pm #1142344Thanks again guys, I’m heading to the Madison Fishing Expo this next weekend I should be able to get some rod building tips and how to’s there. Then I’ll go from there, meanwhile I’m still going to check out Youtube and contact TUC directly just to see for future rod investments. Thanks
