Anyone know if the lazer bits (for power auger) will hook up to an eskimo powerhead without modifications? Might pick up an eskimo stingray for a good deal but I want the option of hooking up a 6″ bit to it for fishing the backwaters.

I would pull the trigger on it! They work perfectly together. I just read about this today.

I believe ya, and I DO plan on picking one up… but I would still like some first hand info from someone who has tried it, no offense meant hamms. I don’t think I can pass up the eskimo. If need be I can have someone cut me an adapter, but I HOPE they are interchangeable.
February 14, 2013 at 2:56 am #1141616I don’t think the hole will line of perfect. I put a 6″ Eskimo bit on my Strikemaster and had to drill it out. I would drill a new hole 90 degrees from the original and make the connection like this.
February 14, 2013 at 3:01 am #1141619Where did you find the eskimo 6″? did you use a hand auger? If its possible to use a hand auger I could probably have an adapter made to use a 6″ lazer hand auger bit and save myself $125.
February 14, 2013 at 3:37 pm #1141778I got the 6″ Eskimo from Craigslist, it was a power auger bit and was a good deal $40.
February 14, 2013 at 3:51 pm #1141784A darn good deal! I looked and looked and looked and could not find anything about a 6″ power auger bit for eskimo.. that is why I’ve been holding off buying one, in hopes to find a used strikemaster for a good price since I can buy a 6″ bit for it.
fisherman-andyPosts: 252February 14, 2013 at 4:04 pm #1141790My solo powerhead will definitely fit onto the Eskimo power drill. you’ll have to use the strikemaster bolt. There is gonna be some play or wobble due to the that Eskimo bolt hole is larger 3/8. If you use a hitch pin or collar pin with maybe a reducer that fits it may allow for less wobble if you can find such.
The Strikemaster solo powerhead will not bolt up to the Eskimo drill unit without an adapter such as the quick connect or a fabricate adapter. Or you can drill or mill out the hole on the Eskimo drill or tapped a completely separate hole like in that youtube video posted earlier.
I have my Solo powerhead adapted onto the Eskimo drill 8″. You be surprise how efficient and fast it cuts. I use it for days where I decide to fish a dirty or shallow lake due to the part because I have no trust in the reliability of the strikemaster lazer blades as it dulls so easily.
February 14, 2013 at 4:19 pm #1141796Okay, so let me see if I have this correct.
The eskimo comes with 3/8″ mounting hardware. The hole in the powerhead shaft and the bit are 3/8 with one end tapped. The strikemaster is smaller (1/4″ possibly?) and is configured the same way. So I could use the strikemaster bit on the eskimo powerhead by simply using the smaller bolt (1/4″ or whatever it is) but obviously there will be some play when you have a 3/8 hole on the shaft and a 1/4 bolt.
Is that the case? If so I would just need to drill a new 3/8 hole through the lazer bit and then use a bolt and lock nut or a pin like in the video to hold it on to get a tight fit.
Seems simple enough.
February 14, 2013 at 5:53 pm #1141846Its nice you guys can play mix-and-match with your post hole diggers. Jiffy spins the opposite (correct) direction.

The shaft coming out of the Eskimo Power Head is smaller in Diameter than the shaft that comes out of the Strikemaster Power Head so you will have some slop in that area as well.
I had to drill out the hole that the power head shaft goes into on the Eskimo Bit slightly to allow it to fit the Strikemaster Power Head shaft.
I then drilled another hole 90 degrees from the original in the bit to fit the Strikemaster Power Head Shaft.
You will only have to drill one hole but you will have a little slop between the power head shaft ans the auger bit collar.
I would drill a fresh hole to match the strikemaster power head hole, that will keep the original hole intact and not leave any slop there.
Hope this made sense?
February 14, 2013 at 6:45 pm #1141869Makes perfect sense, thanks IceNutz. I reckon a fella could wrap the shaft in some teflon tape or something to take the slop out. Or I could just search and search and search and hope to find an eskimo 6″ bit. Looks like they stopped selling them in 04 or 06.

Too bad I drilled mine out, I would sell it to you.
But not for $40! LOL

No not quite that cheap, the stupid blades cost that much. I find it hard to believe that 10- 15% of the total cost of an auger is in 2 blades!!!!
February 15, 2013 at 5:42 pm #1142299I know what you mean! Local shop wants $40 for 5″ mora blades. The 5″ mora auger is sitting next to them for $49.99.
