Panfish + clear water

On this lake I fish the water is terribly murky from feedlots. It mostly has small panfish. I was only catching small ones so I moved over by the swimming beach and the water was very clear. I caught a decent crappie and a nice gill. Then I had to leave so do you think the bigger panfish hang out around the clearer water?

Yes. Or more importantly, the small fish are using the dirty water to hide from the larger predictor fish.

You could be right about the clear water holding bigger fish but in my experience I’ve never had this happen, and I am not saying it isn’t possible whatsoever, just hasn’t happened to me yet. Consider a change in bottom composition, lack or abundance of weeds, and depth all of these can also effect water clarity. My guess is since you went closer to a beach there may be a sandier bottom in the area. Just some thoughts.

I would guess the sandy bottom is what did it. Probably in the sand eating worms/bugs while the little fish are out cruising the lake.

Well it certainly appears that they like the clearer water and sandy bottom.
