As I get some time, I’ll keep adding a some test vids from my LX-9 onto this post. I was on the Miss – Pool 7 Wed through Sat and filled my sd card Hours of good stuff to go through!

Wing Dam scour hole – 32fow / ice 12″ thick with 10-12″ of snow cover – clear sky/sunny about 2pm. Marked a wall of fish about 10′ thick and just had to check it out with the camera! Holy Catfish!

They did not have any interest in what we had to offer(jigging raps).Maybe a piece of crawler on a single hook/splitshot rig?All the ones that I seen caught were snagged.A lot of guys do keep them.

Should have snagged them all and left them on the ice… less for me to catch while walleye fishing.

Here is my 3rd and final for now. Final set of tests with the Marcum LX-9 on the Mississippi River – P-7. Ran the camera in holes between the wing dams with 10″ of ice and 10-12″ of snow cover. General lighting conditions varied throughout the day between over-cast, to heavy over cast and freezing drizzle. We even recorded into the night without the use of the LEDs just to see the results.
This vid is a bit long and you may want to skip around through it. This doesn’t focus on fishing – this was put together to show an unbias view of the quality of the new Marcum LX-9 and the DVR function.

I had the 625 prior to getting the LX-9. Quality wise, the images are even! If the 625sd had a built in DVR, I would still have it and have bought the LX-7. Keep in mind that the flow right now is very low, and being winter with no wmajor run-off the river is at its clearest. This thing does the best I have seen in a consumer grade camera head! Thanks Marcum

    Randy,
What type of layout are you using to get a good view of your jig? I mean are you drilling a seperate hole for the LX-9 camera that is 2-3 feet from the hole you are fishing from and then facing the camera towards your jig? I’m curious how this works. If I purchase an LX-9 I was thinking of drilling my two fishing holes and then a third one far enough away for the camera to capture both baits. Would this work and if so, how far away would the camera have to be to capture both fishing holes that were 2-3 feet apart.

Nice videos Randy. I would love to have the built in video recorder in my 825SD.

Your right on the money with the layout. We were in current, so we needed to take that into account. Most of the time, I was drilling a triangle layout of holes. Two forward, and one in the center about 3 to 6 feet behind us. Then I could pan back and forth. As you may have noticed in some of the video, I have the camera on the bottom so the current wouldn’t move the camera head. Also, when it got windy and the ice was moving (that little 1/2″ bobbing of water in the hole was magnified on the vid)

I agree on that feature to be added to the 625 and 825. I’m not associated with Marcum, so I don’t know what might be in the works for 2013/14. Had the 625sd had a DVR, I would have never sold it! Awesome camera.

I think we all would like that! With the availability of recording devices dwindling, it would be awesome to have a on board recorder.

Randy are you planning on taking the unit to the Pete Rock or Lake Wisconsin. I have talked to people that have used lower end cameras on the Rock and say the water isn’t clear enough to really see anything, I was just wondering if a upper end unit would make a difference.

Regardless of a marcum or a Menards special, water clarity is going to affect what you can see, light penetration, mud, … just have to have realistic expectations. A couple years ago, i had my 625 at the dells. One weekends I could see 18-20′ down very well. The following weekend the river had rose with run-off and couldn’t see past 10′ if that.
But yes, now that I have the DVR function, I plan on using more frequent. I’ll most likely hit the rock down here by fort since its so close. I’m planning on the Miss again by early April, and possibly the dells a time or two in between. Especially the dells, i want to see the monster in there that eats my blade baits!

Thanks on the Kudos! But it honestly is how simple the ‘9 is to use. Just a matter of getting it wet! I am so anxious to capture more and get more cool stuff up here. It’s seminar time and all the spring shows are in full swing. I’m still about 3 weeks away from being back on the water
