I had the day off, so did Chuck, so, we decided to revisit Chesterwoods Pond today. After working our way back to what we thought was a hot spot, we drilled through the 12-15″ of ice to see …….nothing but bottom! As we started fishing, the bottom seemed to separate, and the fish that had been hiding magically appeared. We had to almost stay on the bottom to catch anything, and what we did catch were Chip sized fish. We stuck it out, and soon were bringing in bigger fish. We kept 8 of the bigger fish—between 7 & 8″. (One was a 6″ gill that was bleeding as I unhooked it. We did catch two crappies about 10 AM. Mine was hiding behind my jig as it came through the hole, while Chuck’s was much more respectable –an easy keeper. Unfortunately, that darn Vexilar cable got in the way! Weprobably wouldn’t have lost him using a Markham! (Just throwing gas on the fire!) it was a relaxing, comfortable day, despite the long walk.

You and Chirp without any pictures?

I don’t believe that fish hiding behind your lure was that big.

You guys wouldn’t believe pictures anyway. You would say it was camera angles or our arms are way to long. What can I say we catch them when others can’t. Thanks for a nice day on the ice Ed.

You were right, Chuck…….it was a much more pleasant day without Brian & Greg along! They probably would have made us bring beer & cook brats & bait their hooks & jig for them. Much better without them. Thanks for the good day, Chuck!
