Jigs and sins?? Not a sin to use these great lures Try variety pink and red both in glow are good and chartruse or orange seem to be good as well, I like glow for crappies. They love a double glow also glow plastic on it.

and this helps a guy out how

I try to cover 3 basic groups – bright, dark, glow and enhance or contrast what I am presenting. I generally am size 8 to 12 depending on depth and which plastics I’m using.
    1. Bumblebee
    2. Brite Glow
    3. Orange Tiger
    4. Clown

Thanks for the ideas. Randy is that a tungsten jig or a diamond jig? On their web site I cannot tell much of a difference between the Chekai & Majmun jig. Any thoughts between these two jigs?

    Thanks!

Add some firetiger colors for the contrast. That’s my go to color, even though for others it seems to be red. If you get the bigger sizes. The only real difference between the Majmun and Chekai is shape. I need to get some Majmuns. They look killer for gills.

If you are going to get the largest sizes, you might want to try some Diamonds as well as the Chekai. Personally I think at that size the extra weight of tungsten is overkill and may even be less natural of a presentation.

Let us know how they work out for you. I love follow up posts, especially when people are relying on IDOers advice.

The Froggie Diamond jig has been one of my ‘go to’ colors here around pool 8.

Only real difference between the Chekai and majmun jigs are the shape of them and some more color selections with the chekai

Last I looked they were out of stock on nearly every tungsten jig. But you are right, all tungsten jigs are pretty much the same. It just comes down to the paint job and hooks.

BK I havent checked lately but you may be right. I have hundreds of gill pills, diamond jigs and slender spoons. I have caught tons of fish on them. I was just trying to give some differant options on jigs that have been around for 10 years or more. I tried to give some options and opinions on tungsten jigs 3 years ago and just got blasted!!!!! Now that custom jigs and spins has them now it seems like they found gold on the moon. I understand sponsership so I apologize if I offended anybody. Dan

I have been absolutely hammering crappies on the largest size Majmun in pink and glow. Tipped with a shortened number 6 ratso body or J&S paddle bug have produced the best. I’ve sat in a crowd and caught fish hand over fist with this setup while others, just a few yards away, got nothing but a wicked case of bucket butt. I do however bend both the eye and the hook shank to make the jig sit horizontal. In my experience, if my jig isn’t perfectly horizontal, they don’t want it. If the bite gets tough, drop down one size jig head and shorten your tails accordingly.

By shortening, do you mean cutting off the tail bit by bit until they start biting?

I bite off a section of the segmented non-tail end. Usually one segment for the bigger majmun and two for the smaller ones. I like it to fill the hook shank so the curve of the hook comes out just ahead of where the tail begins. I want all tail and very little body hanging off the end. Again, rigged perfectly horizontally.

Good tips mrCrowley, nice of you to share. Often it is those little subtleties that add fish on a trip. Attention to detail. Of course there will be days when some guy with a dot jig hanging from a swivel snap with 8# line and a dead waxie will have a good day but by and large paying attention to the little things pays off.
