I’m an avid fishermen n would like to try something new this year. I want to fish a river on the ice. I was wandering how you can determine a good spot to try. Are there certain things to look for? I live In the northern metro n would be thinking the crow river or possibly the Mississippi. Any info would be great! thanks

The one place i see people fish regularly is above and below the cr dam on the cr side. I’ve heard people talking about ice fishing the rum with not much for success. I would make myself visible if you fish the crow or rum. There are alot of sleds running up and down them most years. I wouldn’t setup in a blind corner.

Spots on the mississipi in your area will be tough to come by. The river changes every year and you almost need to find spots in the summer, and you have to make absolute sure the location is conducive to producing relatively safe ice. The sippi was extremely low this year as well, which makes it more difficult. I have a couple spots I fished last year and caught big pike, but they have been a total bust this year. Just be safe if you try, going through the ice is one thing, its another animal when the water is moving underneath.
