hey guys, looking for some help

Besides running my auger out to Big Lake, does anyone have a good small engines mechanic in the st. cloud area that has worked on their auger with good results. My strikemaster will start, but will not stay running. I can only keep it running if I stay on the throttle, as soon as I let off, it dies. I stumped.

Is the gas in it new or old?
Did it get water in it?
You could always run some sea foam in it to see if you can get it to run better.
If that doesn’t work you could give D-rock a call and see if they could fix it

You could check Bart’s Mower Service on Division. They did a great job with my old Jiffy. Don’t know for sure if they handle strikemasters, but they carried all the necessary tecumsah parts.

Gas is new this year and I’ve tried running a couple ounces of gas mixed with a couple ounces of seafoam. I drilled 15 holes tonite after work thinking that would help things, but no luck. Carb could be gummed up? The auger is 6 years old and never had a
good tune up, may just need a once over

If your thinking Strikemaster at Big lake – they are no longer there – I think they are getting relocated to the cities with the rest of Rapala

There is another shop that works on SM in the same location. H20 Outfitters.

Just my opinion, but these motors, especially the 2 strokes are very sensitive to to gas oil ratios. If you’re mixing the recomended gas to oil and then adding more sea foam or any other addditive you are essencially leaning out the mixture. The auger oils are now formulated with fuel stabilizer in them. Eskimo is 50 to 1, jiffy is 40 to 1, I don’t know what strikemaster is. Bottom line is buy fresh non ethanol gas and mix 1 gallon at a time with one bottle of the same name oil as your auger. As an example, I have an eskimo auger. I buy the eskimo brand oil that say mix with 1 gallon gasoline. I fill my dedicated gas can with 1 gallon non ethanol fuel and add the entire contents of the oil, shake vigorously fill the auger gas tank and punch holes.

Thanks for the replys guys. I will be making the trip down to H2O in Big Lake.

I do have to ask though, after seeing castle rocks’s post, what ratio do you guys mix your gas to oil. The manual says 24:1, but I know as of recently strikemaster says its fine to go to 40:1. I’ve been using the 40:1 for the last 3 years now, but over the last couple weeks, its been running worse and worse.

I run my 2 hp Tecumseh Strikemaster at between 80:1 and 100:1 with AMSoil saber pro and recommend it to anyone with any brand of auger
