Hooks and Transducer Cords

How do you guys avoid hooks catching the transducer cord when bringing fish up? seems every day I stick it unless I reach down and grab each bluegill I catch. Will it do any damage if I hook it too many times? They never go in past the barb, but do catch it.

    Pull the cord out first.

I find that I hook the cord much less if it is just slightly above the bottom of the hole. If it is hanging below the ice, circling bluegills will catch it nearly everytime.

I cant keep mine in the hole, the thing is loud as heck. Even outside the shanty the clicking drives me nuts! You can hear the clicking of the transducer 10 feet away. If I lower it so its below the ice I hear nothing.

I start out with one hole, if I have that problem I’ll drill another hole close to the first one and put the transducer just to the bottom of the ice in the second hole.

I have done that before and it does work. Lately I’ve had to hole hop to catch fish, sitting has produced 1 or 2 fish then nothing. If I had a gas auger maybe I would drill two holes each time, but hole hopping with a hand auger in 12″+ of ice limits me to 1 hole at a time.

    Get a Vexilar!

Have the ducer right at bottom of ice.
    Drill 2nd hole.
Or i’ve gotten the habit to reach over and gently slide the ducer out of hole right when a fish is hooked.

When I’m on fish I pull the ducer up to the top until it is only 1\4″ below the surface, shoot it dead center with the narrow beam. Not for every situation of course but if you are settled in and on a good bite it will save you a ton of wrap ups. The second hole thing works too Nothing pissssses me off more than to have a fish pop your bait while trying to undo a double wrap.

Is his the same B BK that made fun of me on another forum when I proposed that a flasher can be a handicap when shallow water hole hopping? Tangling and cable hooking is especially annoying when you are bringing up fish from such shallow water that they still pretty wild. I still find it more efficient in some situations, to leave the flasher in the sled.

Well said and very true. Seen it time and time again when fishing shallow and hole hopping the guys who have the Marcum in the sled usually clean house. This I believe is all a confidence thing, knowing an active school is beneath and concentrating 100% on the presentation while zeroing in on the spring or rod tip saves time and hassle Still wouldn’t be caught dead without my 5 for those finicky biters
