Buying a power auger…. I’ve always used strike masters in the past, I’ve never bought one… Just used my dad’s he is 7 hours away and so is the power auger… so I’m looking at finding something quality for a smaller price. the lazer mag is awesome i know i’ve used one for the past 6 years but I cannot fork over the cash for one. so i’m looking at either the magnum or the mako by eskimo or the stingray. can anyone tell me the difference between these three does anyone have these or recommend one over the other. I’m looking for something light and durable. how well do the eskimos cut are they tricky to start. I’m a hole hopper and the hand auger is just not doing it for me now that we have a decent amount of ice down here in illinois. I need it for the weekend cannot go another day hand drilling 35 to 40 holes or more.

Have an eskimo 51cc Shark… cuts like butter and starts on the first or second pull every time. My buddy has the same model and has had his for a few years and his still starts first or second pull too. I think the shark is 31 lbs so not light but not heavy either. Definitely not saying its the best auger you can buy but for $280… it gets the job done. Good luck

I have and am very happy with my Nils but if I were buying right now, that SM with Honda would be very tempting. Both are in the same weight class.

I got a SW with the Honda engine this year…

    So easy to start

    Smooth running

I purchased a 6″ bit for it too and it handles everything the Mississippi River back waters can throw at me..

I’m 51 years old and this is the best investment for my future on the ice I could have ever purchased..

Eskimo Stingray here going on 3 years. Light and cuts very well, starts on 1st or 2nd pull.

Eskimo MAKO 9″… cuts great but not a run and gunner… it’s heavy. Starts easily

Eskimo has a different website than there main site, and they sell various items at a discounted price. The augers are demos and are really cheap. It’s the parent company’s website…sorry I can’t remember the name…definitely worth googling. I bought a demo from this site and it’s been awesome!

Somebody should start this topic sometime by asking what not to buy because I cant think of one out there that has a bad rep. You can pretty much base your purchase on cost.

Ardisam is the parent company. I bought a dealer demo 350 Eskape from them last year, it was everything they said it was. When it came it was missing a few rod holders, they sent them out no questions ask. This website is a store for all their companies, hope this helps: http://moreoutdoor4u.com/

I was hoping someone could convince me to go with the cheaper Eskimo’s the more and more I think about it i don’t know if I can not buy the strike master its 3 3lbs lighter the only reason i would get the eskimo is if it has two blads instead of just the one blade with the magnum does anyone know what the blades on the stingray look like

If your a hole hopper, buy a nils and never look back! I easily pop 100 to 300 holes in a whole day of fishing and feel great about it at the end of the day. I have had jiffys, and s.m. augers before and always had problems starting and drilling. I even bent the pitch on my lazer mag xpress twice just barely touching some wood. Did that with my nils, and still cuts like new. If you have never used a nils before, try it.! The best part about the auger is that you dont ever need to apply any pressure to the powerhead to make it drill.

I love my Mako. Fleet Farm has the best prices on them. Usually $300 or lower. No more than $325 I believe.
