Night fishing

How do you guys approach it? I recently graduated college and am now working 8-5 on the weekdays. I never realized how little sunlight adults get to enjoy outside of work in the winter. While in college it was never an issue, if I got the urge to go ice fishing I’d just go, and ask a friend if I misled anything important in class. I can’t do that with work.

I’m able to get out on the ice on weekends, but it’s just not enough.

So I was wondering, do you change your tactics at night? I thought the recent episode about basin crappie was informative and helpful. I was wondering if you would use the same pattern for a night bite on basin crappie? At night on that basin crappie pattern could I expect to see walleye cruise through as well? Or would I have to focus on structure to target walleye at night? I have more glow jigs than you can shake a stick at, and have my Otter rigged up with leds, so the lack of light won’t be an issue, I was just wondering if you guys had any tips on how to approach a lake after the sun goes down.

    Welcome to Adult Hood!
This is how it works, 1st your job screws with your fishing, then you go and do some crazy like settle down, get married, have kids.
Next thing you know, you’re having an on line auction basically giving all your fishing stuff away as there’s simply no time for things like ‘Time-To-Yourself’

    Only kidding!
I fish may of the same spots and depths at night as I do during daylight hours.
My crappie fishing ussualy best right at dark and shortly after, then again a coule hours into dark.

Oh yeh, IDO is not for making your day at work suppose to go by any faster

I do a quite of bit night fishing for crappie. I fish the same depths but I find that the crappies are suspended more than being on the bottom. I also found it interesting that a glow jig/spoon didn’t seem to make any differance in the bite. We have caught them on everything for small jiggging raps, to jigs to, spoons. I usually have three lines set up. Two slip bobbers, one at the bottom to get the ocassional walleye and crappie, and the other set were the crappie are suspended. That higher slip rig outfishes the bottom rig everytime. Then I jig with the third. Also having good light is a must. I have a couple of leds also but, a good latern is the way to go. Plus it throws a bit of heat to. That’s a pic of a few of them I caught the other night. Hope this helps, good luck and tight lines.

If he was a Doctor he would just be out of the office this week and his nurse would have you reschedule your appointment. Then when you go in he tells you about his fishing trip.
