So I am fishing for cats this weekend in Madison. These fish can get a little bigger than the Horseshoe chain, so I am wonder what would be a good, versatile action and length to use as a fishing rod?

Not sure what type, but the color should be white.

I’ve got a 42″ Thorne bros glass professional with outside guides I’d sell pretty cheap.

I use a 32″ TB Perch Sweetheart and a 28″ ML St. Croix. The biggest cat I’ve caught through the ice was 29″ and I had no problems landing it.

I’d say you would have no problems using a medium action rod with your drag set right.

Thanks Ryan. Its nice to see some people are still helpful.

Go no less than medium action. I agree a perch SW would fit the bill. I’m going to run two tip ups and one jigging rod. Go no lighter than 6lb test flouro.

Sounds about right. Thanks. I just have to switch out some hooks on the tip ups and maybe some line. I’ve lost several pike this year until I switched to a circle hook.
