Good gill, nice colors too!
Headed over to the Amery area. We fished perch and found gobs and gobs of 8-9″ fish. 10″ fish were hard to come by, and anything larger just didn’t happen. The fish bit all day long and were burping up some serious worms that they’d been eating. Larger jigging spoons with minnow heads took all the fish, and we were catching 2-1 over nearby jig/meat combinations. Playing around with the smaller fish lost its appeal, so we drilled a bunch of other areas in similar 28-35 foot depths with just more of the same.
Switched lakes altogether and searched for some basin crappies. We picked too big a basin. More perch on the shallower sides, along with rock bass, but no crappies. Until dark. For some reason, on a 20foot break we found some near dark and they were stacked deep. Unfortunately, they were really on the move. We smacked a handful of 11″ and 12″ fish, beautiful crappies, and then it was over! Frantic drilling in all directions was fruitless.
Had fun trying however, and enjoyed the WI scenery!
