So how far south do people get out and ice fish? I see reports from Iowa but is there ice fishing south of there? Also see a occasional report from Colorado. Would imaging that is up in the mountains. See a few from Maine and what looks to be up state New York to. How far south do those guys ice fish?

My nephew in CO is ice fishing the small reservoirs that are on the front plains in the Fort Collins/Wellington area. Last Feb. when I was out there, I make the run up to Granby in the ski hills – Beautiful location to be chase’n trout!

Then you’d really crap when you saw people standing on piers on the Gulf Of Mexico in Florida fishing bait with little ice rod combos that are sold in convenience stores all over down there. The ones I saw were either pink or blue. $10. I have a picture of them in a gas station somewhere. I’ll look for it.

Yep they sell ’em in Wal Mart down there also. You shoulda seen the look on the workers face at Wal Mart in Florida when I asked if they had any ice fishing rods in stock as I was looking at the “bait fish” rods. Priceless !!!
On a road trip to Texas in my younger years, just for fun we stopped at a bait shop in Oklahoma and asked if they had any augers in stock. Once they figured out where we were from and what was going on all they could say was ” Y’alls crazy, y’all crack the ice”

zooksPosts: 922January 22, 2013 at 8:15 pm #1133627Northern California has ice fishing for trout in the Eastern Sierra mountain lakes near Mammoth/Bishop. Have seen a fishing report on another forum.

Best one I ever heard was when a guy had his walleye rig at
a gas station and the attendant(looking at his Wave Wackers)
asked to know “Why Y’all put yer windshield on da back of
da boat?”
