My brother and I have been fishing a metro lake the past few weeks in search of some nice eyes. We’ve managed to find fish but outa the 40 fish we’ve caught only two have been longer then 16 inches most being around 12 inches. we’ve tried fishing all over the lake in different depths n times but we can not find Any bigger fish. I was wandering if anyone had input on where the larger sized fish are.?.? Do they have that much different patterns?? Or are they really just few n far between?? Thanks for the input!

My first question would be what metro lake? Some lakes in the metro, that’s just how it is.

Like stated above, depends on the lake. Mid-End of January on a metro lake – Few and far between. 2-4 inches of ice is best in the metro, once the circus comes to town, you need to start fishing away from the crowds or start fishing off hours. I know a metro lake that used to kick out pretty consistent prime time walleyes. Now, just 12 inchers. Sometimes the “prime time” for the bigger fish moves to 1:00 -3:00am on weekdays. Good luck!

The closer you are to the cities the lower your chances of catching decent fish are. Granted this is somewhat a generalization statement but it all boils down to fishing pressure. Higher population densities mean higher fishing pressure.

It sounds like you are after Walleyes? What is your location maybe some can recommend better lakes to try?

We have been on waconia. We’ve been fishing this lake for four or five years now N have caught respectable fish. But this year they just arnt there. We’ve stayed in the wheel house all night a few times this year n the bite is for sure a night bite n we catch fish throughout the whole night… We also try to avoid crowds as best as we can…. It just gets to the point where catching a 12 inch fish isn’t even fun.. thanks again guys!
