Hey guys, it’s my brother’s 30th bday this weekend and I’m looking at getting him a Marcum flasher as he’s got a young family and wouldn’t buy it himself. He loves ice fishing but most of his time is spent in shallower water. Any reviews on the vs1 for those applications.

Also he might visit me further north once or twice like to take him for whitefish/Lakers. I fish in 100ft of water, how does the vx1 work in these applications.

Anyhow appreciate any input, I could maybe stretch getting an lx-3?

the vx-1 is a solid unit. It will work in 100ft but the 20ยบ transducer will show a big area. He might not be able to fish right next to you in the deep water, but it certainly will work.

Never used the vx1 myself but for fishing in that deeper water the moveable zoom would be the ticket on the lx3tc or a used lx5.I’m sure the vx1 would be good too.

BTW your bro is lucky dude, getting a flasher would be a great gift he will like either unit you get.

vx-1 will work great in shallow water, in the deeper water you might want to look at the lx-3. the lx-3 has a dual beam transducer that allows you to switch between 9 and 20 degrees, where the vx-1 is only 20 degree. The narrower cone will work better in that deep of water.

    ICeNutz,

I think your mixed up, the LX-3 has single transducer. In order to get the dual beam I would have to fork out an extra $200 for the LX-5.

Sorry, I thought the Lx-3 had the dual beam. That’s right the LX-3 has the movable zoom I beleive and the Vx-1 only zooms the bottom.

The Vx-1 is a great unit, I love mine.

Uh oh, sounds like a weak transducer! I was fishing with my vx-1P in 28 feet of water a couple weeks ago and had no problem picking up a 3mm tungsten jig with 1 spike as a solid red line at about 3 gain.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I did notice some foam rubber was stuck to the transducer from the ducer freezing in the holder. I cleared all that off and maybe now it will work better.
