Need to get a pair of bibs so I can kneel and fish instead of standing up or hauling a bucket around when I hole hop. Don’t have a huge budget. What do you guys suggest?

SnoSuit hands down. Go to Glen outdoors, they are on sale for $199. Jacket is also $199. A STEAL!

They arent like snowpants.. much thinner, but they do a great job of keeping the water and wind off of you. Wear them with some sweatpants or something and youll be just fine
January 20, 2013 at 5:52 pm #1132874I bought Gamehyde/Stormhyde fishing bibs on sale for $40 from their website.
And I wear insulated pants underneath and they are working out awesome. One size bigger to allow for layering. The material is heavy weight and there is a thin liner inside also. Has zippered legs but only go up to knee so boots can be a bit of a challenge.
Early this year I also bought wool army surplus bibs for $25 at Fleet Farm and that worked great until the belly expanded and the wool bibs got a bit constraining.January 20, 2013 at 5:57 pm #1132875Quote:

What are their sizes like? I wear a 38 pants, do I need XL or 2XL do you think?
January 20, 2013 at 6:04 pm #1132877I’m a 38 also went with the XL little long in the legs the boots help out there and it helps give extra room for get up and down otherwise a great fit with the extra layering.

Thanks a ton, added them to the list! Might have to go for these since I can wear them in the spring/fall too.
January 20, 2013 at 6:30 pm #1132885I bought them for spring and fall and I was not sure what size to get as it worked out the extra size worked out great for winter also.
January 20, 2013 at 6:52 pm #1132894If you go with the snosuit then you dont have to worry about layering under neath. Got a few buddies that went the less expensive route only to spend the difference on quality long jons and insulated pants to wear under them. Blue jeans or sweats are fine under the snosuit. If you try layer under them you will be the only guy out on the ice in zero degrees sweating.
Mine work well for late fall and early spring open water fishing to. Typically just dont wear the coat with them. Lots of times just a light fall jacket or rain coat if needed. Usually the bibs come out when its about 45 degrees out. Little over kill then but its easy to just open a zipper. Then again many nights 45 degrees is the warm part of the night.

Not me, I won’t be outside the shanty if its 0 degrees out. Below 20 and I dont hole hop, I just park it on a place I know there is fish and sit inside with the heater on… wussy I know.
Above 20 and I’ll hole hop around. Above 30 and I’m constantly moving.
January 20, 2013 at 7:36 pm #1132904I wear the fleet farm “field and stream” bibs for snowmobiling and ice fishing. Economical and very warm. They have a rubberized surface on the knees, so I haven’t been wet, but then, I don’t kneel in slush along side the hole in the ice either…
January 20, 2013 at 9:03 pm #1132920I’ve been happy with my strikemaster bibs. I’m a 38 and got the xls. Can usually get for 100 bucks on sale.
DAN JPosts: 127January 20, 2013 at 9:30 pm #1132923Sorry about the leggings.com couldn’t resist. Sno Suit bibs are the best. I also have the Striker Lite for early and late ice (they float)
tbrooks11Posts: 605January 20, 2013 at 9:40 pm #1132930I like the frogtogs because i can use them while ice fishing, or as rain pants in the summer. Its really easy to add insulation.. pretty tough to take it off

Just placed my order with them. Hope they come soon, want to use them by this weekend!
$48 including shipping, right about what I wanted to spend. I have tons of underamor and insulated pants for hunting that I can wear under them. Warmth shouldnt be a problem, just hope they hold up well with kneeling on the ice. Should be 1000X better than the non waterproof snow pants I’ve been wearing. Wet knees are COLD after a couple hours.
January 20, 2013 at 10:32 pm #1132939If there is anyway you can swing it I’d pay the few extra $ and get the snosuit. by far the best purchase I’ve made in the last few years. well worth the $.
eisertPosts: 76January 20, 2013 at 11:22 pm #1132962I use Carhart bibs and a kneeling pad. Carharts last forever, warm as all get out, not as expensive as the ice fishing suits and you can use them for other activitites too. Not to mention they are dang near windproof. FF and Reeds has them on sale often. The kneeling pad I bought on Amazon for about $7.
January 21, 2013 at 3:32 pm #1133150Striker, was warm in 10 degrees with 25-35 mph winds this weekend butt and knees padded great product
January 21, 2013 at 3:55 pm #1133169I do not know if other brands are better. But I do feel strongly that the fact Artic Armor floats….that is a huge plus in their favor.
I am wearing Ice Armor Extreme bibs and parka. I LOVE them. but I do have some buyers remorse since the Artic Armor is safer (especially for winter boating).
ajwPosts: 521January 21, 2013 at 5:18 pm #1133208I really really like the vexilar cold snap bibs. Tho i get laughed at by buddys for wearing vex clothing and fishing with a marcum, but i must say they are an excellent bib for 100 bucks – water proof – lots of storage – and knee pads
January 21, 2013 at 6:34 pm #1133250Sportsman Guide Gear Bibs all the way!!!!!! You can get them on sale for as low as 40 bucks (regularily around 75). They are waterproof, really warm and perfect for your budget. I have them along with the parka and could not be happier. It provides me with the warmth and waterproofing that the others have for less than 100 bucks compared to the 500 that some people spend. I’ve been using them all season and they are awesome
January 21, 2013 at 7:20 pm #1133267As you can see there are lots of choices. I went with North Face un-insulated Gortex bibs and they work great but they are not unlike so many other rain gear you have lots of choices.

I’m guilty of this also… But I just switched to MarCum this year. They are good bibs.

January 23, 2013 at 5:42 pm #1133881Fleet farm has fleece bibs that I thought looked great for layering. They are in the army surplus area.
