Trout Fishing Advice Needed!

Three of us are heading up north of Grand Marais this weekend to do some trout fishing. It’s going to be a mix of Lake Trout and Rainbows.

Any advice on technique or bait would be very helpful, I have a feeling the bite is going to be tough with highs below zero for most of our trip.

    Thanks

My friends who fish Lake Trout quite a bit use 1/2 oz tube jigs that are a combination of white and blue. I used the same thing on my last trip with them and caught almost every fish that I marked. The area we fished does not have lake map chips, so we looked for points with steep banks and drilled holes assuming that the steep drop continued under water. If not, we moved on to another area. Beyond that I know very little about Lake Trout fishing. Good luck

Blood Red Tube jigs, airplane jigs, or chubby darters have been my top three baits!!!

Last year I hired a guide we just used a regular jig with a minnow. He also used soft plasticss like ratsos because on some lakes the trout eat bugs versus minnows. Good luck

Ratsos work great! I don’t fish for trout much but when I do I like sight fishing with plastics.
