With the Lx6,7&9 you can effectively run the unit in dual zoom and cover the entire water column with maximum resolution. When setting the range short of the actual depth you can dial the zoom below the selected range to cover the full depth.

Was this possible on 2.9? I remember mild disappointment in previous attemps to do this..

If Marcum provided more range options this would be more effective. Thanks Marcum!

I dont see the benefit of using zoom to try to cover the whole water column. Help me understand?

I think he is using zoom to cover the bottom section, so he can make the dial and full column shorter in depth range and make it appear like artificial zoom for the top part of the column?

Kinda tricky and a pain in the rear if you ask me when you have target id adjust to help you with seeing things in the column better.

Yeah, say you’re in 19′, you can set the range to 10′ and run a 10′ zoom anchored to the bottom. Or fishing trout in 120, set the range to 80′ and the zoom to 40′. It’ll maximize your units resolution potential in some cases.

The setup is easy and better than the dynamic setting in many situations IMO. I don’t use the stupid round dial, i prefer the columns and graph zoom.

I can see this idea maybe benefiting deeper water situations but still there’s not gonna be much activity in the upper water column. Why not just set a deeper range for zoom then? I think the LX6 and 7 can zoom up to 40′? Plus most people rarely fish deeper than 40-60 fow.

I also dont use the flasher dial. With the modes available with vertical and graph there’s no need.

It be nice to be able to add a 2nd zoom window in a different water column I think is what you really want here.

That is what I want, a second zoom window. I think you’d get good benefits most specifically for trout, but also for suspended crappie and those random roaming big walleye.

I’m just trying to maximize what Marcum has given us to work with. In all honesty, the menu is a little cumbersome as-is, adding a full second zoom window might be too much. If Marcum tweaked the primary range setup procedure to allow 5′ (or even integer) adjustments for the top and bottom of the range, you would have the potential for resolution maximization in most every situation while possibly not complicating the menu options further.
