Never used one, never seen one. If you are looking for a rod to take the place of a spring bobber, I suggest a TUC noodle (tuned up custom rods). I will never fish a spring bobber again.

If you don’t have the money to throw at a custom, I think the quick tip rods are awesome. I own a 27 inch and a 22 inch and they see a lot of time on the ice while the other rods sit in the rod case.

Are there better out there…absolutely. But for the price, they are great.

Check out DH customs their noodles are priced between the frabill and the TUC or Thorne rods. Can get one for about $50 bucks.

Bought a quick tip combo with the fly reel. It has quickly rocketed to my favorite panfish rig. The fly reel ratio of 2.7 to 1 allow’s me to pull crappie out of 30′ of water. For $80 you cant go wrong.

My current setup is a 30″ active jigging rod with a frabill titanium spring bobber. That is in my close hole, about 40″ further from my seat is a second hole that I deadstick a 46″ ht micro-touch. I fish out of a solo fish-trap

X2! Just used my TUC noodle for the first time today and it is awesome! I watched my friends mess with iced up spring bobbers while I was busy icing the slabs. just my 2 cents, but I couldn’t be happier. Call Andy at TUC and pick up one of the in stock rods he has, I think you’ll be happy and you couldn’t ask for better customer service

For a production made rod, the quick tip is the best one in my opinion when you compare it to others like a Jason Mitchell Meatstick, etc. I have a few of these along with me each outing and they have worked great for me the past 4 years. I rarely use a spring bobber rod anymore, as I feel these do very well as you can see a crappie lift your bait by watching the tip. Go with a 27 or 32″ rod, as I don’t feel the 22 or 24″ are quite as sensitive.

The TUC rods are sweet though, so you if you want to pony up a few extra $’s, you won’t be disappointed.

I just picked up a quick tip this year and am overall disappointed in the rod. IMO it does not have a soft enough tip to avoid using spring bobber, so far the best off the shelf rod with a soft enough tip for gills has been the meat stick for me. Next year will be investing in a custom rod.
