What is a good handheld gps unit. But not too expensive.

Garmin Oregon with Lakemaster chip, search on ebay for one, or a Garmin inland lakes chip. Cabelas has these units every once in a while for a very low price about half of retail, $200.00 range.

I went from a Lowrance iFinder (which is good) to an Endura Safari and am very disappointed. I’ve seen many good comments about the Garmin Oregon so that’s worth checking out.

I have a Garmin Oregon with a Lakemaster chip that I have been very happy with. All touch screen, so it makes it nice to use. I have had mine for 3 years now without any issues.

Pay attention to chip compatibility. the two main map chip brands are navionics and lakemaster. The navionics are better on some lakes but the lakemaster’s newest version is sick on the upper mississippi…i’m pretty sure humminbird is the only manufacturer that will handle the newest lakemaster chip.
