LX 6/7 snow shield

The snow shield on my LX 6 seems to scratch quite easily and I was wondering if anyone has been successful in cleaning these up? I was thinking maybe headlight polish would work unless someone else has any secret home remedies. I wouldnt want to have to spend much as a replacement is only about $13 on Amazon.

    Thanks,

    Joe

I’m looking for the same thing. Your post got me to wondering if Speck Products makes anti-glare protective screen films in a size that would cover the right area for the Lx 6/7. I have one for the Nook device my daughter gave me. These came in 2-packs so you could just replace one easily. Would you even need a snow shield then?

While the cover on the digital units is called a “snow shield” it is actually more of a protective screen cover than anything. When I first started fishing the digital units I let it in place all the time until I was confident that the units were durable. Now I never fish with that cover in place and only use it during transport/storage. Certainly one flat screen protector sitting over the top of a flat LCD panel does little to “shield” the screen below. In fact, because the LCD screen is heated and produces a fair measure of warmth that the protector does not, I find the snow will build up on the snow shield whereas flakes will hit the screen on the digital units, melt and bead right off in all but the most extreme cold.

I guess what I’m try to say is… ditch the protector when fishing and use it during transport / storage.

James, have you put anything on the actual screen of the locator? What do you use to clean the screens on your LX-7/6/9?

And how scratch resistant is the actual LCD screen?

    No, nothing.

Water from an ice hole and a shirt sleeve…

If I was going to do it properly I’d use lens cleaner for reading glasses and a soft lens wipe. But I rarely have that hand when a pike decides to take a duke on my 9. At that point I reach for anything handy.

As for the durability of the screens, I’ve found them VERY durable. Scratches have not been an issue. The screen protector does come in handy during transport when 20# propane tanks tend to look for something to bash.

They’re a glass front. So, as resistant to scratching as glass. To really get a feel for it I guess one of us will need to borrow the wife’s wedding ring and give it a go.

Thanks James, I didn’t want to try it without the shield, but I have already gone through two of them because I hate looking through the scratches, now I will take it off when I’m fishing.

Why dont you guys just get those clear plastic screen protectors, like for touch screen phones. Slap that baby on there and it should protect from any scratches when the cover is not on. You can buy it in any size fairly cheap.

The only spray I would use is the vinager Windex, amonia might attack some screens. This is true also for any plastic like the snow shield, ATV windshield, motersackle windshield, ect.
