So… while out fishing my favorite point on lake pepin this morning i feel that thump on my slender spoon, good walleye or so i thought! It turned out to be a 10 plus pound sheephead, and in the process of landing him he wrapped several times around my transducer cable. Landed the beast and then started to unwrap everything and noticed that my cable was cut about two inches above the transducer . Its not cut clear throught but its still cut. I did try it and it is still works but pulled it out of the water and fished the rest of the day without it. What are my options now? Is there a way to repair or is it better to just replace the whole transducer? Hindsight is 20 20 and yes i know to pull it but in all of the caous i didn’t

Wrap it with electrical tape. Keep fishing that way if it works.

I had a similar thing happen to me two seasons ago. I made it all the way to the last day of last season before the transducer went wonky. Now I have to get a replacement but at least I got another season and a half out of it.

Have to say at least your story involves a fish. Mine just involves letting the unit bounce around the portable next to the auger when we towed it with a snowmobile. Why do we have to learn all the lessons the hard way

Liquid electrical tape. Any hardware store, or walmart, should have it. Coat it up and see what happens.

I used heat shrink tape on my underwater camera cord. Also their is a waterproof plumbing tape called stretch and seal.
I would use the plumbing tape first then put one coat of the heat tape on it.

Yes, a good heat shrink tape will work, but since that is not always available, use a good silicon bathroom sealant, work it into the cut and cable and let it cure, then apply the electrical tape over the top. It will seal it up perfect and the tape will help to keep if from stripping out when hitting the ice. As always, nothing beats a new cable though.
