Gonna put mono on my ice rides for walleyes. Just wondering what pound test most guys use for ice fishing them. I run 8lb in the spring out of the boat. Is that to heavy or should I go to 6

6# will land any walleye that swims but I really don’t see any huge downfall using 8#. The difference in diameter is minute.

4lb for me. Never hooked a walleye that couldn’t be beat down with 4lb p-line floroclear!

4# for me for eyes. I do have 6# on one but I think its going to change as I spooled Vanish on it. (lots of memory when cold) I learned about floro and cold the hard way.

I use 6 pound on my jigging rods, 3 on my bobber rods with drag set light, and 8 on my tip up leaders.

8# for me. I do not feel you gain a lot of stealth from using 6# so why risk losing a big fish because you used lighter line.

4# & 5# Trilene professional grade flourocarbon ice. Thin as it comes and strong as heck to yank up the fish when needed.

6# Trilene pro grade flourocarbon when open water.

Just picked up a spool of p-line flouroclear in 4lb. Never used it before but there have been a lot of good things said about it. Now i just need to get out and use it.

I use 6# Sufix and love it. I think the drag on your reel has alot to do with it also when you hook a large fish.

I will attest to that. Too many quality fish lost due to cold, poorly functioning drags on some reels.
