I have an iPad 2 and have been toying with the idea of a GPS/Lake Map app. for it and was wondering if any out there was using one? if so, how do you like and which one is it. I would be mounting this to my ATV. I have been looking and there are so many out there and don’t want to just through money out the window. I currently have a Gamin hand held but can be a little difficult to due to the size of it. Any help or advice would be great.

    Thanks

There is one that I us for my android phone and I dont know if it is available through the app store but it is called Spotmarker. It is free and runs off of google earth. It alows you to create a way point and make notes about it. You can even attach a photo to it. It doesnt show contour lines but it does give you the lat and lon of the spot so you can plug it in to your gps. Great for exploring a lake if you dont have a topo map of that exact lake. Hope that this helps. Tight lines.

Navionics will run on your iPad 3G/LTE w/GPS. The battery drain will be awful thought.

I dont think I would mount an ipad to the outside of my 4 wheeler there not made to be out in the elements. Cold/bouncing/water/snow doesnt sound like a good idea to me.

Already stated, but I’ll say it again.

DO NOT MOUNT AN IPAD ON YOUR ATV!!!

Hope you heard me. Ipads are not made to be outside like that in those conditions. As mentioned before, the battery will drain within minutes just like my iPhone does when out in the cold. I wouldn’t even think about hooking it up to the DC cig lighter either for power.

Thank you all for all the good information on this. I was concerned about battery life and the outside elements.
