I have finally given my Eagle Claw in line reels a good run. For the money I am very pleased. The free spool with tungsten jigs just sail down the hole in 20+ feet of water. What is your opinion of the in line reels?

I love mine! I actually haven’t used a spinning reel yet this season.

I love mine. Never did like a spinning reel to icefish with.

Michelle was going to get one for my birthday. She tried 3 places and they were sold out. I ended up with the cheap Genz inline reel and you know what, I like it. She isn’t perfect and there is a technique to use it like thumbing the spool on the hookset and when jigging so it doesn’t reel in line on its own. But I kind of like the idea of how basic and primitive this particular reel is.

I agree that in shallow water paired with a tungsten jig it is a ton of fun.

I bought two of the Eagle claw’s and while they worked fine and I caught fish with them I saw on another post/site where someone had re-rigged the drag and it seemed to work better, I may give that a shot. The drag as is leaves something to be desired. It seemed like it kept adjusting itself every 3-4 fish I caught. Everything else worked fine and as I have never fished with a reel like this it took a little time to get the feel for it, and to be honest it could be something I’m doing that is messing up the drag. I would like to try out one of the Black Betty’s and see the differences in the two.

I have used mine(Eagle Claw) quite a bit. The anti reverse sef-tightens so I have to loosen it every other “cast” so the spool rolls freely to let line out. I dont like that. It does however feel especially nice when reeling in. It has done nothing magical for me yet that my spinning reels cant seem to accomplish. One of two I purchased was broken.

I have the 6061 and it’s the best reel I own, If I could find 2-3 more most my spinning reels wouls be replaced with them…My Okuma still is my go to in shallow water though but the 6061 is still used as a deadtick then, but the Okuma is set up on a sight rod where the 6061 is on a Tripwire and a tad long for sight fishing

Used my 6061 this past weekend for the first time. I too was amazed at how fast it let out line on the smallest jig. I fished inside the whole time so I can’t comment on how it works outside with glove on yet. But it’s definitely my favorite reel. Well worth the $56 I paid for it in the Cabelas Bargain Cave. Sorry, had to rub that last part in.

So far I am pleased with my 6061. Free spool feature is super smooth.

Only complaint I have about the reel is when my hands get wet and I go to depress the free spool button when the temps are low enough my thumb freezes to the button. Similar to the dumb and dumber tongue on a metal pole effect.

I’ll probably put some tape on it.
