Hey guys I’m looking to get a handheld gps for fishing. I want to be able to mark spots, track where I went, and it has to be able to get maps for Wisconsin at least. I really have no idea what I’m talking about when it comes to gps so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

if money were no object I would get a Garmin Montana with a Lakemaster chip for whatever particular state your interested in. The Montana has a large screen and is versatile for many other applications. Otherwise, watch cabelas for their specials on the Oregon model, it is the Montana’s little brother, but only in screen size. Some guys are also downloading Navionics maps / gps onto their smartphones. Good Luck.

I bought the Garmin Oregon 450 for this ice season and I love it, I got mine refurbished on ebay straight from Garmin, it comes with the 1 year warranty, for $199…As far as a chip I would go with the Upper Midwest Fishing Guide(UMFG) from Garmin, it covers much more area than lakemaster. I believe it covers MN,WI,IA,ND,SD,MI,IL and very importantly LOW…Plus you can’t use Lakemaster chips in Garmins anymore unless you find an old one, which I have a 2010 chip, but I’m going to upgrade to the UMFG soon…Good luck hope ya find a good one…
