We are working on 2 locations for Hotel/Motel recommendations. There are a lot in the area and very close by. Trying to achieve a budget orientated and a little nicer place if one chooses. Either way, we want to have fisherman friendly locations to stay at.

Hey Randy, I may have missed it but were you guys able to recommend any friendly mom and pop motels in the area?

    Thanks,
    Ike

Weather looks good – High in the upper 20’s for both Sat & Sun! Looks like a 3 day fishing marathon for me! Now if I can find a way to charge batteries with a cigarette port in my truck

I know Jesse..But I’ve been kinda out of sorts lately…

Grandkids can bring all SORTS of strange microbes over when they visit

I did get out there on Saturday…the Atomic Fishing Derby was on so it was quite busy..

The good news is the ice is in GREAT shape..16 to 17″- solid and clear…

The fishing itself has been slow to medium..tip-ups are so-so and the panfish, while there, have to be hunted down.

As the date gets closer I’ll keep updating.

Just a quick rundown on where to get on…

If there is people who do not wish to drive on, there is plenty of parking for trucks and trailers for guys with 4 wheelers, for those that are on foot I’ll post my cell and personally give you a ride (or guide) to home base ..

Soon a roll call post will be set up so we will know how much food, logistics etc can be figured out.

Just getting rolling for the social event of the season guys

Three vehicles through the ice this weekend but they were all trying to cross big pressure ridges. Two of the vehicles were easy retrivals but one is way around the back side buried deep into the ice. That is going to cost somebody a few pennies. Ice otherwise is in very good shape and with the cold temps later in the week it should tighten things up nicely.

    Ya buddy,
I almost could have predicted someone would go through…

    LaCrosse Trib

One thing about Lake Onalaska…she does not suffer fools well
Most of the time when they go in is during a derby, and believe me there were a whole BUNCH of people out Saturday!
They always have to “explore” to catch the big one,you just have to have the sense not to cross heaves on a small lake
The ice is still in great shape and should handle the upcoming weather well…and we will have a wheelers for alliterative transportation if needed

    More updates coming

You guys will be staying a very short distance from Nutbush City Limits. Cute friendly bar tenders and some of the best food you will find from Breakfast to dinner.

So we’ll see you Friday night Bret?

I know it’s a long ways away and the weather constantly changes but the future forecast says 38 for a high on the 9th

Sorry, but if it’s 38 degrees, I’ll be headed the opposite way with the boat. If not, we found some good perch on the lake last weekend, and might be tempted to try them again.

Well from past experience it’s usually well below 0 during the ice GTG so some warm weather would be a bonus

Ron, I responded with a PM and assumed you got it. I’m planning on getting down there around 6:30am – with guys showing up anytime there after.

I’ll have a tan colored GMC 2500 with a highliner cap – OLD faded IDO sticker on the back along with Quantum/Gamakatsu.The back of my truck will be open for storage for anyone with coolers or what ever. I’m not responsible for anything left in there, unless its money! Then I’ll be responsible for spending it
My open tent is M.I.A., so I won’t have that up. I will have my ATV with a larger trailer with for being mobile and lending a hand to anyone that doesn’t want to drive on the ice. The general plan is to set up coolers/grills just out from Schafers as a home base. I’ll have a 2-way radio in the back of the truck so if anyone shows up later and needs a ride – just give me a shout. Otherwise 262-617-5161, but most likely I won’t hear it ring.

I want to mostly roam around and BS with everyone, so I’ll be the day’s go-fir’

For food/lunch, here is what we have so far. I’ll be back by camp around 11:30 and start getting chicken/brats ready for a noon lunch. That we we can socialize and if anyone wants to return out for the afternoon bite, they’ll have time.

I raided my camping box and grabbed 100 paper plates, napkins, Solo cups, knives, tongs.
I’ll have my smoker there and I’ll get a dozen seasoned/smoked chicken breasts & 24 smoked brats going. I also have a venison backstrap to donate to any grill masters??? I also grabbed ketchup/yellow mustard.

Mudshark is picking up an order of hotdogs from a local butcher, and I know a couple others have offered up bringing some soup and a campstove.

So far, we have about 30+ commitments, and I have about a dozen maybe’s from PM’s. So if we can count on lunch for 35-40, we should have plenty of extras if more show up.

WHAT WE NEED A COMMITMENT FOR:
    Drinks – Bring your own.
    Hotdog/brat buns
    Couple grills / Charcoal
Garbage Can so we don’t have a mess on the ice.
Maybe a variety of some chips and something else to pass.

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone – hope to see you up there! I’m leaving late tonight for heading up there. I have an appt. Tues morning and an afternoon coyote hunt…then on the river chasing eyes until Sat Morning

Think I forgot to ‘sign’ up so consider this aas official notice. I’ll throw in a garbage can and some sacks. For a grill I’ll throw a table top gas grill in the truck if we need it and a bag o chips. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.

If the ATV starts I’ll have that along too.

Looking for a good fish fry near the Super 8 Friday night. Any suggestions or anyone else want to do a lil “pre” GTG Friday ? Around 7pm Friday night ?
