Man it’s been a while, but we worked hard at it today. Got out on Mazaska today looking for some pan fish. We covered a lot of ground and drilled a lot of holes. Ended up with a few Crappies and a couple of decent Bluegills, and a lot of 6 inch long Perch. We found most of the fish in 20-25 feet of water on the edge of the deepest holes. We had a lot of lookers and chasers that just wouldn’t commit. The few Crappies we encountered however would chase the jig right up and nail it.

As you might expect, my gear was rusty and crusty and didn’t work very well. The lantern ran out of propane, a couple of the reels needed line, One rod snapped off at the tip. In particular my auger needs blades and a new plug. It’s a 2000 Strikemaster Lazer Mag, 2 hp 8 inch. Any idea what the correct plug gap would be? And what would be the best way to replace the blades, order direct or look for them locally (East metro)?

    Thanks

Champion CJ8Y for a plug is what you’ll need

For blades i was at gander in rochester last night and they had lazer blades on sale for 29.99. Best deal I’ve seen around and according to their website that’s what they should be all the time.

    SHARPEN THE BLADES YOURSELF..

use a belt sander with 220 grit papper.. keep blade at same angle as original shapening.. do not hit opisit side of edge with paper..

    very easy to do..

I agee with thegun. I’ve used a good wet stone and honing oil and get good results. also sounds like you need a little more pretrip prep! Good luck Steve

Ok I popped in a new plug and splurged on new blades. I will try sharpening the old ones but for now I want the thing to work.

I walked down to a local pond….it started on the 1st pull, and then it basically pulled itself down through 10 inches of ice in seconds. A-ha! I’m back in business.

Now back to re-lining reels, etc. Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.
