I like to take my own auger. I move alot and find it easier to have mt own at my side rather than have to go get someones else or have them come get mine. I can see if your a trap guy and only drill a set amount of holes and never move only bringing one. Me I can,t sit. May as well stay home.

I normally bring my own no matter what. If me and one other person are out and we have agreed on how we want to fish, sometimes we bring one. 99% of the time I have my own.

Yep. Bring your own unless you know the other auger. Been on a few trips where you get to watch the guy with the auger lay on top of it trying to punch a few holes. Had one trip where my buddy tells me “I dont know whats going on. It worked fine this summer drilling post holes”.

For a number of years I had an auger that seldom ran right and weighed a lot. Those days I would ask friends if they had a auger to bring.

Since I switched over to the Strikelite, my auger has always come along even if it doesn’t get used.

I bring 1 or 2 on every trip. On the trips far from home I bring my old auger as a back up. Still runs great, but doesn’t cut as fast. I have a hard time depending on other people’s equipment.

I bring my own, always have, but I primarily fish alone anymore anyway.

Redundancy! I don’t see why you wouldn’t bring yours along.

Always bring mine with. Depending on the degree of difficulty on the days fishing adventure, might elect to leave one back at vehicle, if with another freind and we have two, but would prefer to have mine at my side.

I bring my own everything everytime. Never going to rely on the the poor maintainace practices of others, that way we can all stay friends.

    YES.
I watched a group of 3 guys for 30 min on LOW sunday try to start 2 augers they brought. I think the they needed a third….

When you think about it its the equivalent of having a boat that does not float or an outboard that will not run, you can sit at the landing all you want but your still not going fishing. Drilling a hole is essential.

If I plan on fishing, I always bring my auger. About the only time I wouldn’t is if the ice is thin enough for a hand auger as backup; even then I’ll usually bring my own hand auger. I’ll bring a backup engine too if it’s just myself bringing an auger up to someplace like LOW. Too much gas $$ to not be able to fish IMO.

I bring my own ALWAYS, and wish who ever fishes with me do the same. It is by far a more mobile approach. I have the jiffy propane and some of the guys I fish with just can not grasp the concept of having to set it down the right way, I want those to use their own auger for sure.

Since I have gotten my solo I always bring it. I have had it about 4 years and I think I havent brought it on 2 trips since then because we didnt have room (we had a lot of stuff on those). I like drilling with mine too because I have gotten use to it and how it works. My friends have even stopped bringing theres at times to the local lakes just because they like mine as well.

I usually fish alone so always take my auger except for this one time. I drove two hours to fish the Mississippi River. Only trouble was, I had forgotten to load my auger before leaving home. Walked out onto the ice and just started asking guys to take pity on me and could I borrow theirs to drill a hole or two. I was only turned down by a couple guys, everyone else either let me use their auger or drilled the holes for me.

I never forgot that and still to this day try to pay it forward.

I drove a considerable distance yesterday at dark thirty only to have my auger break after a long walk out on the ice. Fishing trip over.

I always take my own, and always take an extra hand auger if I’m by myself. Sometimes I leave the extra in the truck, but its cheap insurance if I ever bust a blade or something and need it. A $40 6″ mora auger is the perfect back-up auger. Yeah its going to suck drilling through 1-2 feet of ice, but its better than going home.

I find fish with an auger and I found out last weekend that I cant hand drill many holes with thick ice. Mid-to late season a hand auger is about as good as nothing for me.
I picked up a backup gas auger yesterday but I still dont plan to take both with me. But at least I can still fish while waiting for one to get repaired.
