Just pulled the trigger on one! I have never seen an Otter shelter in person and am a little timid about the purchase. If it is as good as a lot of you guys say, I am sure it will be fine. I can’t seem to find any reviews on the cottage online. If any of you have seen one or own one, please do tell. Thanks, Joe

December 31, 2012 at 4:50 pm #1125527The Cottage is a GREAT 1-Man shack, I use this size Otter for 90% of my fishing. Big enough to be roomy and use longer rods, but small enough to handle and heat.
I use rods up to 36″ comfortably, and the sled will fit sideways in the box of a full sized truck allowing me to carry up to 3 Cottages in a long box.
You will really like the thermal tent too- I was fishing in ND this weekend (no wind but below zero all day) and I had my Buddy heater on Pilot Light as much as I had it on Low and was plenty warm. I’ll never buy a non-insulated house again.

January 1, 2013 at 1:15 am #1125691Thanks for all of the replies guys! I get home from fishing today and the wife plays a message from Cabela’s that says Otter is out of stock for the season…. Sounds Fishy to me. I think I have some research to do.
January 28, 2013 at 2:30 am #1135336Found a cottage! You guys were absolutely right on quality and durability! I have this thing decked out and am loving it! The hyfax runners are the biggest surprise to me… Pulls like a dream. I think the hitch pin seems a little weak, so I will replace it with a larger diameter one before hitting the trail. Love how easy the main zipper on the door works… like butter! Any input on custom mods would be welcome…..
Also, I made it a point to call Otter and give James and the boys at IDO credit for a new happy customer. Thanks to all of you who helped in this decision! Next year I will get the resort with NONE of my previous concerns that I had with this purchase. Well maybe one… Is it big enough? Tight lines, JoeJanuary 28, 2013 at 12:49 pm #1135413Quote:

Regarding mods:
-high wind anchoring ropes permanently bolted to the outside.
-a board of PVC rod holders for easy access to different rod set-ups.
-installed a wooden transom and drag bolt (this was before Otter came out with their product for this) for a second sled when needed.
-foamed the bottom and installed carpet in the bottom of the tub for greater insulation and noise reduction.
-I have the older style seating and upgraded the mounting to full plates (aluminum) and swapped out to a more comfortable, higher sitting (I’m 6’3″ and have long legs), higher backed boat seat.
I’ve toyed with other ideas but have postponed as I’m probably going to upgrade my 10 – 12 year old rig to an newer insulated one here in the next couple of years.
