I bought a new solo laser last year and it was great. Fired right up this fall, but was out today and it took at least 50 pulls. Once it started it ran perfect. Anyone have any advice on what to look for. It’s frustrating and a little embarrassing standing out there yanking on that thing.

If it hasn’t been started in a while, it might have had some gas in the line that it had to “work thru”. I try to make sure I start mine at least every month and it’s been going strong for 2+ years now.

Wow. Was going to just put up that same post about my neighbors solo. It was a bear to start today. Let it cool down and same thing. Pull, pull, pull. Got all my gear in the wash right now to due to it spraying a nice mist of gas out of the hose connection on the side of the tank. Good thing Im not a smoker or have a feeling I would still be smoking.

So whats the fix guys. Im sure it will be a great auger once over this little hurdle.

Same with my Nils has always been an easy starter but this year when cold 15-20pulls, had it in the hose thawing last night went outside and it started on half a pull… Not making scense to me why it’s always statred great now dont when I have changed nothing….Going to lean it out a little to see if maybe I got a little to much oil in the mix….

New gas, new plug, and hope for the best.

Run some sea foam through it!

had new gas in our today. New plug after a year seems a little over kill. Bet Mikes motor doesnt have more than a half dozen days on the ice so far.

Will be calling Strikemaster in the morning.

I agree on the Seafoam probably just varnished up in there. Just trying to save you down time if it gets sent in. Good luck, they’ve got a good service dept.

Was this the first time you started it this winter? If so, then we both had the same thing happen. I noticed that the primer bulb didn’t have any gas in it at first. It took a lot of priming, switching from start, to run, and hitting the gas while pulling until the bulb finally filled up. Then it was able to start fine. Normally I follow the SM starting procedure and don’t have a problem in the winter. In the spring I normally empty my gas, run it till it dies from no gas, then fog the cylinder. However, this spring I’m going to leave gas in it, add some Sta-Bil and fire it up at least once a month. Same thing I do to my lawn mower.

You start your lawn mower once a month in the winter? I must be a lazy mofo

Bring it inside and let it warm up and dry out overnight. You would be surpsied what a little condensation and cold weather will do to an auger.

When I got my new one Saturday and tried starting it in the backyard, I must have pulled it at least 30 times. I was choking it in the start position. I opened it up and it took about 3 pulls. All was good.

I did notice afterward some gas that looked to be coming from a seal that is around a tube going into the gas tank.

So does the little pressure release knob make a big difference? I was pushing it back in after most pulls, but not all of them. Its an extra step with a small engine that I am not used to, but will have to get in the habit.

She drilled pretty good yesterday on the ice. It was -2 when we started. It took 5-10 pulls cold. Once she was running, she was running.

I figure like most small engines you just have to learn the little quirks of each individual unit.

Update… I went out today again and had the anger in the house so it was warm when I got there. Started with 3 pulls. Was very happy. So I let it sit for a few hours and couldn’t get it started again. It’s really getting frustrating. I’m not sure what the next step should be.

Check the spark plug. I also have seen that if there is gas in the air vent hose it doesnt run/ start very well at all. It sounds like a new plug would help out.

I remixed my gas last night solved my problem…either had bad gas or to much oil, running great now on a fresh mix of 80:1
