Ice fishing “unofficial” GTG this year?

After attending one for the past 4 or 5 years, I got kinda used to making plans this time of year…

My suggestion would be the La Crosse area
It’s kinda a central location,we have never hosted one(I remember Cade tried years ago and it just didn’t work out) and there can be some good fishing.
While I know I could not pull this off myself…I would be more than be willing to help as much as possible with anyone here in the area that wants to help co-organize such a thing.

    What do you think guys??

Koonce and myself were kicking the idea around a month or 2 before we had ice. We have not talked about anything since then seeing as we didn’t know what the future weather would provide for ice.

Jeff if that doesn’t work out I know a good perch lake or two around here. I even know one that has a porta potty really close to it for those emergencies…

Good, now I know who’s place to crash at! So do I need to bring a couple white tail backstraps or Elk steaks?

As for timing, how about Jan 19 or 26th?

I left a V/mail with Water’s Edge Motel in Stoddard. Just seeking some preliminary info from them.
    1. Would they be willing to host us (proving a place to park and water access.
    2. Room rate for anyone wishing to stay over
    3. Any objections to a “Base camp” set up with grills- tent..

Another option may be meeting up at Goose Island. I haven’t ice fished that area for about 20+ years, but I can’t imagine us not finding fish.

Then we just need to get a date picked.
How about Brian pinning a post on top for a poll on those dates? Let it run for a week and see where were at. Since Mudshark brought it up, I think he should be the Chief Organizers this year

Phew, that’s a 3 hour drive. I might have to make a Mn IDO GTG.

That’s a very small price to pay to be graced by the presence of WI & Iowa guys

Stoddard is a good idea but,if Lake Onalaska is anything like this summer it will be hot! Another + is the size to move around, that and Stoddard can be kinda tricky to drive on…
So many places around town that have been doing well also

Man up Pug and don’t drive like a little old lady…good conditions and it can be done in 2 1/2 hrs.
Besides,I’ve driven to Cassville,Praire du Chien,Neceda Wi and Hudson to attend…You can do it too bud

Whatever is decided I will be willing to help as much as possible…PM me.

I would rather see a different date than that anyway. That’s the only date I know I can’t make.

I would be up for that. We used to do them up on Chisago or South Center. Another good choice might be Pokegama about a hour north of the metro.

I like the location and date! The 26th is the Atomic Ice Derby on the Lake I think so… if we can avoid that, it’d be great.

Hey guys, I guess I seem to be the out spoken one I got a few PM’s nicely asking that we NOT have it on the 26th and suggesting Onalaska as a more common ground.
So, I just put a poll together and lets get some feed back based on that.

I have a “too lazy to dig it up” question…how much is an out of state Wi license and if buying in Jan or Feb when does it expire? Onalaska cannot be fished with a Mn or Ia license…right?

You are correct on the IA and MN licenses. If you have never bought a license in WI before you can get a 1st time license for $25.75 for the year otherwise a one day is $10 and a four day is $24. All licenses can be bought on-line to. Hope this helps.
