We had a truck go thru the ice on Lake Winnipeg (south basin) and the dad (driver) got out but had to go in to help his young daughter who did not. Very happy to report all made it out and are well, others on the ice were there to assist. Just a reminder not to take things for granted, with reports of 2 feet of ice most places on the lake some folks assume they are safe to drive all over.

    Excellent reminder.

We had the ice break up behind us coming off of Mille Lacs on the north end this past Saturday. This was on a marked road that had been traveled by a couple ATVs and a Gator just minutes before we crossed in a Ranger. And when I say it “broke up” I mean the ice chunked into pieces smaller than coffee tables if I had been fractions of a second slower with the trottle… we would have gone swimming.

    No good!

Glad they made it out alive.

I believe they were driving over or near an ice heave, but don’t quote me.

I wish. I’m demo’ing it and in absolute love with it. Unfortunately it is for a limited time and after that I’m going to need to find a way to get myself back into one or go back to “roughing it.” One thing I do know is I will be selling my snowmobiles ASAP… not that they’re worth all that much. Everyone that rides in it becomes an instant convert. Everything about it is so convenient, smooth… easy might be the best word to describe it to be honest.

My understanding is Polaris is going to release the 4 door version early in 2013. THAT is the one I want but know I really can’t afford.

Logo’d clothing won’t be a profit center unless I suddenly depart from my “no junk” policy. I’ll be happy if I can break even and get the logo out there and keep the members happy.

As far as the tax write off is concerned, actually I’m sure I could write it off. Of course I might have to choose which employee I’m going to let go to free up the cash to make it happen…

Tax deductible yes, but you still have to pay for it.

This rig worked great, the tracks really float over the soft spots.

I’m really looking forward to trying one of these tracked Rangers in deep snow to see how well it handles. So far it feels like they’re unstoppable.

maybe you need to swing a deal with polaris as the official sponsor of IDO tv, and in that trade you get free lease of the rig?

Couldn’t get it stuck in deep snow but it was running low on power climbing steep hills. It really should be geared down and reclutched when running the tracks. But instead it got a big bore kit and a turbo.

I’ve got the XP 900 and it feels like it will launch you into space if you stomp on it on a steep grade. IS yours a 900?

Now that would be nice. But those kind of deals are… rare. Like hens teeth. But I do plan to ask. Can’t hurt, right?

those 900’s are pretty awesome but no, it’s an 850 that started life as an 800.

I know you’ve got some mad skills with engines. What did the mods to the 800 cost you and what do you think you added for HP?

With the 900 is feels like the tracks are geared too low. The 900’s will hit 35+ carrying a heavy load out on the ice which is plenty fast but there’s too much emphasis placed on low end in my opinion. The guys wanting to haul around heavy hard-side houses would like disagree but I’m going to use it more to cover ground with a reasonable load. That said, 35 MPH is likely faster than I would go the vast majority of the time anyway so maybe I’m just focused on a fix for something that isn’t broke. What are you seeing for top end with your modded 800?

One things that has been absolutely blowing my mind is how good the fuel economy is on these things. I can’t even start a single 2 stroke sled and get it off the trailer for what I’m using in a full day fishing with this Polaris hauling three guys and gear. Last Saturday Cal and I fished all day, ran out to the mud and back, fished along the north shore making 3 or 4 trips out and back to the truck for gear and let the engine idle for 4 hours later in the day to charge camera batteries. We used a little over 2 gallons of fuel.

That machine is so nice to travel on/off the lakes. As James said it sips the fuel, I was impressed as the machine didn’t use much. I look at it similar to a boat. Most people spend a lot more on a boat, but you will use this machine as the tool to get you around the lake and never have to worry about driving your vehicle onto the ice. Ride is smooth and surprising quiet inside the heated cab. Very nice tool for ice fishing.

the worst that can happen is they tell you NO and you are stuck in the same boat as you are in now, without. Heck, you could show them some of the custom outfitted guide rigs and how yours could be a good advertising point……..
