Ice on Bay Point is ~7 inches. I was marking fish but couldn’t get them to bite. At one point the water column was lit up with what looked like fish but nothing was biting. This happened in 3 different locations. I’m still trying to figure it out.

Ice is about 5 inches on Pottery Pond. Again, I was marking fish but they were small sunnies. A couple guys were out fishing in the pond for trout. I didn’t know there was trout in that body of water. I will have to try for those.

    More later.

The locals have been hitting Baypoint for over a month now thru the ice. When it was too thin to stand on they stayed on the docks and drilled holes within reach. Most of the decent resident fish are gone by now. You might get every once in a while.

Why don’t you go to the Levee and cast jigs in the open water for walleyes? Can’t be any colder than standing there catching tiny sunfish.

Next time bring a camera. I’m betting it was a school of shad. That’s been my experience anyways with what your describing.

    That’s what I was thinking.
