I checked several of the community holes today and we are getting close.

Good news is the wind did a nice job of clearing the ice.

Lake Onalaska has about 2″‘s of solid ice. I walked out about 20 yards from the boat landing. The ice felt solid beneath me and I am about 220 lbs.

There were 2 guys at the end of Fishermans Rd. Didn’t see much action from them plus a large area of open water to the east.

Camp 22 was nowhere near ready. Maybe the middle of next week. Black River is wide open from Airport Beach to Clinton Street bridge except for a small patch of skim ice by the I-90 bridge.

The Sailboat Boat Club has a good 2″‘s of ice. Some of it is clear and some has the cloudy snow look froze over. I walked out from the dock about 20 yards and the ice felt solid. Took 4 good pokes of the spud to bust through.

The south landing bay at Dresbach is froze over nicely. Maybe a few more days for that.

Not sure what this bright, sunny day will do to the ice but the air temp is chilly. One more cold night and I think I may have to try it. Be safe and wear your creepers; it is slippery.

x2 on that report. Did the same thing today. Took a picture of the crazy fishing on dark ice 15 feet from open water. Might just as well cast from shore.

I am surprised at how much open water there still is. The next few days low temps will kick over a lot of those areas. Last night I saw three guys fishing camp 22, the ice did not look good !

Lake Onalaska is good to go. A good 3-4″‘s of ice. Guys were dragging out portables. Lots of perch. Did not really matter what you put in front of them. Many little ones but kept a few nice ones for the frying pan tonight. I fished 8-9 ft of water. Never did get a bluegill. Good to be on top of hard water again.

All systems go everywhere I checked today. People are fishing Stoddard also. All the way out to the 2nd set of islands. From the road, it looked like there were some areas of recent open water so watch out. These next couple nights should shore up any of the real sketchy stuff. I had a very solid day on the south end of pool 8. There is a report up on the front page. I’ll be fishing mid pool tomorrow. Say hi if you see me… (if you see me )
