I still believe there is nowhere in Minnesota that gives anglers a better chance at trophy fish. Every single winter the magnitude of these Walleyes, Pike and Crappies have ME shaking my head. AGAIN……If your looking for a bucket of eaters I am NOT your guide. You’ll likely catch a meal, but we’re targeting big fish and sometimes……We catch them.

Not to many guides in Minnesota can say or do that.
Nice! I am laughing at myself right now, ever time I open and read one of your post the very next thing I do is open my calander and consider calling you…….. I swear I will call you!!! My schedule is just so buisy…… I won’t let it keep me from rainy this winter though I swear to it!

One handers! I luv it!
Me too!
So funny how a 30.5 inch Walleye will sit motionless with her fat belly in the palm of your hand. I will admit you want to make sure your Camera guy gets after it as it’s a bit of weight to hold. I call it “Daze 30” a bit of a spin off from the P90X workout. I’m not sure how it tones muscles, but seems to do great with the smiling ones.
As promised I said I’d give you a more complete story of yesterday’s trip. First of all lets say that we did receive some heavy snow. Anglers need to exercise caution and KNOW where they are going. A mindless sled ride could leave you in some trouble. We continue to seek a shallow water bite for our bigger fish.
Here was the start of our big fish as Gary laced up this nice 21 inch fish. All of these fish are heavy in comparision to overall length for Canadian shield lakes. Typically speaking a heavy fish seems to come further south with longer growing seasons. I guess the cisco feed on friday nights has Girthy Gretta and her gals eating good in the neighborhood!!
We laced up some nice 19-21 inch fish that were literally “Cookie Cutter” Fatties. Jigging spoons or dead sticks seemed to do the trick.
Here’s an example of how fat some of these 20 inch fish are running. This fish CRASHED my jigging spoon and minnow head!!
There is no prettier colorations of a Walleye in my mind. When you look up WALLEYE it should look like a Rainy Lake Wilderness fish!!
Anglers need to realize that sometimes SIMPLE is better. This 28 was caught SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE……Cork,Split shot and red hook with a Fathead.
MY JOB?? Set and Reel!! Most all of you have heard those directions from me in the fish house or in the boat! Set it Set it…REEL REEL REEL!! LOL!!
I’d like to give you coordinates, but I gotta run!! The “SHOW” must go on!! Yesterday is simply old news in the guide biz. It means NOTHING to today’s customers. It’s a “Hero or Zero” Biz. Everbody’s looking for a HERO!! LOL!!
Have a great day everyone and if you here that distant cry of SUPERTANKER…….You’ll know it screams from the border.
Great looking fish, I love to fish Mille Lacs but I admit golden walleyes are beautiful looking fish!
