Just got back from Bald Eagle, there were 3 other guys there as well checking the ice conditions. All 4 of us walked out a couple hundred feet and then the guy with the spud went a couple hundred more. There was 4 inches of ice most of the way. The good news is there was only a dusting of snow, looks like the wind cleared most of it. It shouldn’t be too long now.

Shouldnt be too long?? 4 inches is a lot. I’m sure there are a lot of regulars out there fishing already.

It seemed to get thin real fast after that and I didn’t see anyone out there yet. The other guys that were there talked about going out tonight but they self proclaimed about being the guys always first on ice. They seemed to know their stuff so I wouldn’t doubt they’ll be out there tonight.

I remember one spot where the first ice eyes usually hide….

I plan on hitting bald eagle around new years hopefully with a few buddies. Anyone have any luck on this lake night fishing?

4″ in the bay on bald eagle means nothing. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into last year again where to many early ice diehards go through again and the county steps in and shuts down travel on the lake. If you do not know where the moving water is in bald eagle use extreme caution! It can go from driveable ice to paper thin over night in certain areas.

Yikes… well this is my first year ice fishing Bald Eagle so I guess I’ll wait a few more weeks just to be safe.
