I picked up a pair of Kahtoola microspikes from Thorne Brothers and a pair of Alpha Ice Kings this year. Just got the boots so I haven’t tried the fit of the ice spikes on them yet. I will later today and let you know how they work out. They look like they should be a good combo as long as the ice spikes are big enough to fit on the size 12 boots.

There was a booth at the ice show selling a new product I picked up. Ice Trekkers diamond grip. Seems pretty cool but I have not tested yet. Otherwise I have had good luck with HT SCL-1’s for several years now.

Are these easy to take on and off the boots while you have them on your feet?

I like the sandal type. I believe they are made by HT. I got mine at Farm and Fleet.

SCL-1’s. They work very good once you get them strapped on properly.

They would dominate on packed snow. And can you imagine them in a fight!! Or accidently walking on your buddies foot!!!!! Now I want a pair!

FYI – crampons aren’t very comfortable, especially with a soft soled boot commonly used for fishing. I’ve worn them for glacier travel and ice climbing but don’t bring mine for ice fishing. Specialty tool for a specialty purpose.

I’ve used Yak Trax and they work fine. Those Trekkers above look really cool. Would be interested to know if Kahtoola are uncomfortable on bare ice or just too agressive.

Kahtoola’s work fine on bare ice, the only negative is they do make a fair amount of noise when walking–can’t be stealthy, also might be a problem in a suitcase type house with a plastic floor?

No wonder Dave needed new hips. It certainly wasn’t from falling on his A$$. I like my stabilicers.

I picked a pair up at the ice show and used them today for the first time. So far I am very happy with them.

Tried my new XL Kahtoolas yesterday and they do fit very nicely over 12 pack boots and my lighter weight 12 boots. Very pleased with them although they haven’t made it on the ice yet. Planning on that this week.

I mainly fish 3-5 feet of water and I have not had a problem…

As far as in the house… If the tub on the floor of an ice house is that thin… may want to look into a new house !!!

I have been in my Otter and have not had a problem.. The Otter is set up not to stand inside the tub, but I have and there is no bad marks because of it..

Let us know what you choose Justin.. I always like looking for new products to try.. and when it comes to ice safety.. You can’t chince on ice cleats !!
