Does anybody use any beads or blades to attract fish on you’re tip ups?

Yes i mix it up with beads and blades. some days it,s hot others the old plain hook is best.

Another nice trick is to add a piece of reflective tape to allow for easily checking if a flag goes off even after dark. You can easily see it from 100′ or more with just an LED flashlight or headlamp

I like that idea. Going to add the tape. Will help navigation with the motor sports guys too

    Scottie:

Actually the other motorized vehicles will do better if you put that reflective tape all the way around a 3′ or 4′ high stick that is placed near the tip up as you never know how the flag laying down is positioned to be seen by the driver… Also have friends who make them orange or some dark color so that they can be seen during the day as well.

How are you guys rig them? Put the beads or blades right above the hook or move it up the leader?

i put small beads right at the hook. but for blades i generally space them up a little ways so they dont get in the way of the hook.

I finally made it out on Tuesday. There were 3 of us and we only needed two hours to run out of minnows. It looks like my tip ups are still in fine working order.

Came accross some cool ice fishing leaders for pike and walleye called Z LEADERS. I think they are only sold online. I googled them and found they have a bunch of cool rigs and give me the option to customize my hook sizes and line #’s for both wire and fluorocarbon. They also had some awesome smelt rigs. Just wanted to let other fellow fishermen know about these rigs that are better than the ones in the stores.

A couple years ago I was on a lake outside of Bloomer Wisc. and a half dozen guys came with their beer and tip ups. After getting all set up, they were all in a group in the middle when a flag went up. Total mayhem! Everyone took off towards the flag tripping and tackling each other till one got there and he got to pull the line in. After it was all over I asked them what H that was all about. They called it tackle tip up. Crazy people those sconnies.

Ha..ha…A group of this will be doing something similiar to that next weekend up around Webb Lake. I’ll have the advantage though…..no of them have ice cleats.

I was fishing a small pond today and caught a little pike on a tip up. As I lowered a new minnow down the hole, I felt another dang pike grab the minnow but missed him. That was a first. (a pike hitting when setting up a tip up, not missing a fish)
