If Lx-7 not in the budget I would suggest a Lx-5. We have many years experience using the fl-8, fl-18 and the Lx-5 IMHO is the better fishing unit. We own 2 of the LX-5, and would not go back. Good luck fishing

I have the lx3tc which I purchased late last year. It works great & has some great features such as, zoom & interference reduction. Plus has a very vibrant color flasher.
However, I wish I would have bought an lx-7 for the wide range of features & ability to customize. But now with the lx-6 out with the same features just with a smaller screen & 3/4″ target separation vs the bigger screen & 1/2 separation of the 7.
The LX-6 will be my next purchase this season. I definitely recommend Marcum over the competition.

I picked up an LX6 yesterday at the ice show and is pending on whether I should go with the larger LX7 screen.

The LX6 is nice and the features are identical typically aside the smaller screen and target sep from the LX7.

Just curious…How much did you pay at the show??
    I paid $570

Ha – I am in the same boat only I recently purchased the LX-7 and am wondering if I should go with the smaller LX-6 instead. The 7 is nice – just can’t decide if it is a little too big/bulky for moving around.

With the cost to get into the show + parking + gas to get up there I would have spent the difference if not more….

The only way the LX7 wouldn’t be worth it is if you have the cash to get the LX9. It’s the best on the market right now.

Can not comment on the LX-7 But I would stay with Marcum over Vex. I have owned a Vex FL-18 (son in law now has it) and now have a LX-5. Ran these side by side and son in law will not get my LX-5 any time soon. LOL. Have you seen the split shot test Tom Zinanko has made? Tells you to compare the Vex, Marcum and Humminbird with each other but during his test he never shows the Marcum or Humminbird in action. I have talked to Tom in the past. Great guy but I think this was just cheap advertising scheme.

You are more than welcome to run the test and report back the results. That was kinds the whole point of the clip. I’ve seen Tom do the test twice now in person, and what he says happens is exactly what happens. The whole point of the video is to give you all the information you need to run the test yourself and see the results with your own eyes. The reason he doesn’t even show the other 2 units in operation is becasue they would sue the pants off of Vexialr. It was risky enough even having the other 2 units in the clip.

Interesting because I looked at it as an advertising angle as well. I have actually run this test when my nephew was in the market for a new flasher. We ran my LX-5 against the Huminnbird and the Vex FL-22. I had full confidence in my LX-5 because I have used and was well versed in all of the above units. The bottom line is, no pun intended, was that yes, you can see the separation and by playing games you can make them all see some separation, but with the LX-5, I did not need to adjust and re-adjust the power to make if function. Hands down it was better than the other 2, since that time I have played with and purchased the LX-7 and found it to be as good or mostly better as I get to understand the great flexibility of the adjustments on the unit. No matter how you look at it, 3/4″ and less of separation can be seen, it is just how you want to define it. And as I have said previously in other posts, it is not so much what the unit can do but what it is that you like and like about the unit. Once you choose one you will most likely defend it no matter what.

Can you please point out in the clip where he is adjusting the power?

You’re not mistaking adjusting the gain as adjusting the power, are you? In all but a few exceptions power is fixed on all flasher units. Adjusting the gain changes how the unit “hears” or receives signal, but has no affect whatsoever on the power of the outgoing signal.

So what separations did you arrive at for each unit when you ran the test?

either the red line is gonna smash your jig or it isnt….. doesnt matter what brand you use.

True enough. As a matter of fact, that “red line” may even smash your jig if you’re not using a flasher at all.

I’m going to be running the LX-6 this season. I loved my LX-7, but think I might prefer a slightly smaller model with all of Marcum’s technology. Considering my personal run and gun fishing style I think this might best suit my fishing.

Avoiding a flasher debate; I suggest Ice fisherman to test units themselves. If your fishing with me and we’re fishing Crappies like so many of you have….We’ll both drop our same diamond jig into that 40ft basin of water. We’ll fish side by side like we so often do when locating a big pod of slabs. In fact I’ll watch yours and you can watch mine. You can make your decision on what unit best fits your needs. Simply ice sonar in action while we stick fish.
