You’re killing me Grant… I’ll be stuck at work. Unless of course I came down with a case of the walleye fever

I’m hoping to make first ice this weekend maybe tomorrow… However Monday ill be back at work
The Chippewa Flowage outside of Hayward WI fishing season closes at 12:01 AM 12/1 (game fish).
I need to make the decission in the next few hours on wether or not I can make a long ditance snap judgement on wether ice in bay is thick enough or not. Have no resources to go get me accurate info
Have a cabin on south end of one of the branches and when allowed to safely go out prior to this closing date (which historically is running less than 33%) it has treated me and other family members very well.
Like Grant mentioned, early, shallow water ice with little to no disturbance. A great combination.
Even better yet when only the bigger portion of bay is froze over and big part of lake is still open.
There just has to be something about that early transaction as they have tried to committ suicide before.
Will they over the next 48-60 hours is yet to be decided.
Now, If I can just figure out how to get off work, get stuff loaded, and be there before dark tonight?
I need a miracle right now!!!

Hahah! That’s probably true! I am on strict orders not to shoot anything under 160″ though. That fish is a hawg!

Chasing walleyes, or what are your plans?
Looking for an umbrella
A 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Monday Night A 40 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 47. Won’t be sustaining ice around here….. Might dump the boat in Lake MI for the morning
I will be piaying golf in 80 degree weather here in Tucson.
The walleyes will have to wait until May !
I’ll be watching any ice we have disappear in the 50 degree weather…
Randy and vikefanmn77, is a little road trip north a few hours in order? haha. But yeah i hear ya, warmer temps are forecasted here for Duluth, but we have enough ice already where it wont be affected.

Grant, You wanna come down here and go out for Chinooks? I can’t find anyone besides myself dedicated enough to fishing to make the 12 mile haul out on Lake MI this time of year
Well… Randy, I am crazy enough to do so, but just can’t find my way south to do just that. I am taking my dog grouse hunting after some lunch, then looking for some ice to stand on… or at least check!!!
Mark
Grant, I run a bassboat, so its not which “Day” it’s which center of a High pressure zone.
With any luck Wed. night (lOTTERY) i’ll be going off the grid for a long time! So by next Monday…..Who knows where I’ll be…

Nice! Good luck man!
I’m going to try and hit a small lake tomorrow after work for some slabs…Then Monday I’ll probably do the same as you Grant… I almost go off the road everytime I come down thomson hill looking at the river lol…Grant you think the river would have enough with the forecast thats ahead…When I was at work today I chiseled by the shore on the river by cloquet and I found about 2in… Would love to hit the river little scary for me on early ice
Im sure places like Allouez bay etc are good to go (i havent checked it personally, so dont just go running out there), but the main river, where there is moving water has zero ice, and it will be awhile!
lol ya I don’t trust people that much;)…Ya I saw pokegama and all them bays looked iced over….have you drove down to Water ST. at all or do you not fish up there??
Chasing/shooting/killing pheasants in ND – Temps in the 50s this weekend
P.S just got off the pond in my yard playing hockey w/son!
