My father-in-law said that chicken skin makes a great bait for fishing. He had his in a small bottle with some type of liquid. Unfortunately, he passed away before I could ask him what was in the liquid.

Has anybody else used chicken skins? If so, do you soak the skin in something before using?

    Thank you,
    Mike

Knew an old guy and that was all he used. He just kept his soft.

They have these wonderful new things called “plastics” that seem to work OK.

I’ve used them. I brined them in salt water. On the plus side, they stay on the hook for a long time. On the negative side, they’re very difficult to cut into strips, they don’t seem to catch any more fish than live bait, and if you take your hook out of the water for more than 5 seconds, they freeze solid, making them impossible to get off your hook.

    Not worth the trouble IMO

It’s made from the hide of chenas, a rare and exotic mammalian reptile-fish. Native to the island of Nauru, a small island nation in the south Pacific, the Chena is known for it’s colorfully drab plumage and can be identified by it’s distinct call which resembles bigfoot trying to sing Gangnam Style.

    Duh.

I take the skin from the legs as the rest seams to be to thick, lay it out flat on a cuting board and stick it in the freezer for an hour or so then cut with a fillet knife put the small strips in a baby food jar with a strong brine and food color if you like works great on pan fish .

    Seal skin.

I have a Gulp jar full of Chena cut to length and soaking in the Gulp juice. The stuff is insane for sunfish.
