Well, notice I didn’t say that every post made by James was pushing product. Your example is a good one. But as a whole this site heavily leans towards promoting Ice Force products. Some will say that is because they are the best and I’m not even saying that is false because they have great products, but what I am saying is that EVERY substantial fishing forum across the country is the same way. Not just that Shanty one. Go to em all, Lake State, Angler Insider, Fishing MN (or whatever they call it now), Walleye Central, they all operate the SAME way. This site is no different. Get on the wrong side of a mods belief on any site and you will find the door quickly.

I like how you took the sarcasm, didn’t blow up or anything. You get a gold star from me

I understood your point before, however the clarification you made is better. While there certainly are alot of posts that point in the general direction of the sponsors, the ones that don’t are not getting killed/erased/etc, that members have stated about other sites.

But aside from that, I will not hide the fact that I came to this website because of the influence James had on me when making my first flasher purchase. His instructional videos on youtube was a godsend in showing me the finer details that the marcum lx-5 offers. After coming to the site tho, its been a fun learning process on different spoons & techniques. But just like ice shanty, I won’t have much use for the site when the ice is gone, since I have other sites that offer a more localized genre. I will still lurk from time to time (daily), but nothing to talk about

I’m a mod on a couple other sites (non-fishing) and always crack up laughing when I read anything on a site about censorship and “the wrong side of a mod”

I agree censorship happens on some sites. But it cracks me up when the accusation is tossed out there about IDO. There is really two reasons to get zapped here. Taking politics too far, and making a personal comment that is over the line.

In Depth Outdoors is a business for profit. As much as I have exchanged info with James, I understand he has a business to run. He needs to keep his sponsors products out here in front of people. Kudos to him for doing a great job – even with products that I don’t feel are the best of the market. But in having many conversations with James and Joel, I say with confidence that James uses what he promotes, and promotes what he is using. Unlike a few TV hosts out there that would pump your head full of crap if it put an extra buck in their pocket.
I invite anyone to take a long hard look at the list of Reporters that James has invited to share in their knowledge and experiences. As far as I know, there has never been a requirement that you jump on the bandwagon of “his” sponsors.
In fact, many of us have competing sponsors. I feel that is one very distinct sign of respect and being of an open mind. It opens a path to great discussion and comparisons of products. the difference is when we discuss things, it isn’t a slam fest that company blah, blah, blah is a piece of crap. It a discussion of what other products offer and where they can be better or worse. Or, even when products can be combined to give the best of both worlds. Regardless of what industry your comparing, there are two ways of looking at things. 1. stick your head in the sand and believe your at the top of the moutain. 2. Embrace the advancements of your competitors, go forward and build a better product to compete.
As social media forms have increased over the last 10-15 years, so has the use of major companies in doing research. I know first hand that a few of my sponsors visit here regularly to obtain information. Not specific to one other manufactures’ product; but to gain insight to what people want and what they are asking for. Understanding longevity within a company is understanding that a healthy debate is good, and you need to see everything that is around you. James will do great in the long run, because he has taken a very respectful approach in all aspects of his business. If you want to compare qualities, compare the users here to the majority of users on many other sites. Why do so many people stay on here as a regular user? Kind of obvious….

That post was deleted last night and now has resurected i guess…

A deleted post can never be “resurrected.” The truth is the post was never deleted but you did expect it to be. And that’s why you linked to it here. Very clumsy, sir, very clumsy indeed.

Now, to address your aims. I find it hilarious that every time you post here you counter your own point.

I guess your next step will be to really push the limits and see if you can get a buddy to post something really across the line, get banned… then you can crow and spike the ball? How clever. There’s no way people will catch on to that!

Nothing you do or say will change the opinion of the masses formed over time. But it has been interesting to watch you try.

I posted that link after seeing it on Facebook yesterday evening. I think 95% of Clam’s products suck! The offer to stay at the Chase for a weekend and do some fishing with some of the best though, is not crap. That is a pretty nice package! Everybody here loves to ice fish and if I can share some information about a limited event, why not? Last time I fished on Leech I really was sick of catching walleyes. As an FYI, a fellow IDO member Bob, will also be participating with the event.

Jon Jordan said he the took the post down because it was “lame” among other things. I sent a reply to Jon and I also sent it to BK. Now the post is back up this morning.

I did not for one second, take into consideration who sponsors who, nor was I trying to spark any controversy. It simply was an informative post. The lack of comments is by design. I never asked for anyone’s input about the event. If posts have to be subject to lameness, or greatness by proceeding comments then I guess there are a lot of us that have lame posts on here and they should be dusted as well.

With ice season near this site really blossoms with information for numerous members. Why try to make people feel gun shy about posting useful information for the greater good of the community? All I know is this site is a lot better than HSO. Hopefully it stays that way too!

If you had added your comments as to why you liked what was on the other end of your link, the post would have stayed. Give the readers here a reason to care about what you think. Again, there is nothing more lame than a post with nothing more than a link. A perfect example of a post that will get dusted. No matter where the link goes to.

    Make sense?

Up until this morning, when clicking on that link, you got a blank forum that said “access denied” or whatever just like when a political post gets deleted. I’m sure someone else can verify that it wasn’t just me seeing that. I’m not trying to change any minds, not sure why you are so defensive? I simply signed up to voice an opinion like everyone else. Censorship happens everywhere, and up until this morning that post was a pretty good example. Like I said already, I like this forum and I like other forums, I’ve lurked for some time, but thinking censoring only happens other places is just plain false and to think that if Frabill didn’t whip out a massive check made out to IDO that soon enough they wouldn’t be “the best in the business” instead of the current pimp in town is just naïve. $$$$ sure has made the outdoor experience a bit sour lately and that is across the board anywhere you go. Fine if you are cashing checks or part of the ice team or ice force or ice squad or whatever the heck it is, but not so fine for people being hoodwinked into thinking they need a transducer connected to a $1000 pc to catch a few crappies through the ice.

ok, the link you provided is just a link. not a discussion of the link, not your opinion of the link, nothing but the link. on any of the forums i moderate, i would have killed it as spam since you didn’t even offer any discussion about the link you posted. had you posted that link to a thread where someone was asking about trips or whatnot, that in my mind wouldn’t have needed discussion, as i would have understood it to be your answer to the thread question. but as it is all by itself in its own topic, it should have some basis to it. heck, i don’t click on links posted unless i know what its referring to.
