Will I catch more fish?

When adding gear each season I commonly ask myself; Will I catch MORE or BIGGER fish with this additional gear?

Will the Upgrade from what I presently own further streamline my fishing operation?

Years ago prior to the present day flasher market I felt Ice Sonar was paramount to hardwater success. This was back when my grandpa referred to it as “Witch Craft”. Now years beyond the “Green Box” that hangs on display in our guest quarters Marcum Technology just continues to raise the bar as to what we as anglers now come to expect out of Ice Sonar.

I’ve had guys ask me through our guide service if they think the technology stemming from the LX7 creation helps me catch more fish? The only unbiased answer for me is; Just Try it and then you can tell me what you think?

The common answer uncovered by each angler is then most always followed by this question; Would you be willing to sell this LX7 after the season? Now I’m not a mind reader, but think this brings great clarity to the original question and fisherman have decided that it gives them a distinct advantage on the ice.

So here is why I believe Marcum Technology gives ME the edge I seek while ice fishing. I believe most fish are triggered to bite. I feel it’s the triggering mechanism that seperates a good angler from a great angler. If fish are going bonkers we’re all great sticks right!? I see it all the time in the open water and hardwater arena. The distinct advantage we hold in a controlled enviornment like fishing a 8 inch hole is we can read how a fish is reacting to our techniques employed.

Now why this seemingly “Jetson Age” mini RED computer versus? I believe in tight bites like fishing big Crappies noted for quick suck in and blow outs of small larvea that the incredible power of the unit allows me to anticipate that bite better than with any other sonar. The seperation factor allows me to keep that presentation a hair above the fish and truly know when it commits. Often times this transfers nearly no detectable bite to my rod. Here’s another common question I get when fishing shoulder to shoulder with customers. “How did you feel that!!” Answer “I didn’t” Response “OH……..”. I am well known for swinging at fish based SOLEY on what I’ve read on My Marcum and sometimes I’m right.

MOST always these incredible light bites are BIG FISH!!

This is one reason I “See Red” all winter long.

That is truely the ability that separtes those that are great at their profession/trade and the rest of us that really would give anything to be able to make those distinc and knowledgeable contacts with fish. I wish is was something that could be learned easily. Great article.

Great post Chris! One of the things that was a revelation to me years ago was going from feeling something to feeling nothing. If all of the sudden you don’t feel anything on the line. Set the hook!

Great post Chris and I could not agree more on the importance of flashers, since I bought my showdown 3 years ago I believe I have improved as a fisherman, it allows us to solve the puzzles so much quicker increasing the number of fish we catch day in and day out. Having said that on a few lakes in northern WI where I fish there is a shallow water (5 feet) crappie bite throughout the year and for about 4 trips I got outfished by a bunch of locals who did not use sonar. Eventually I pieced the puzzle together and found out I was focusing too much on my sonar and not enough on a special jigging presentation the crappies wanted, I got rid of the sonar on that lake and tripled my catch. Strange phenomenon I know but it worked. Having said all of this I would not trade my trusty showdown for any money absolutely imperative in deeper lakes then it is the locals that are wondering wow how does that guy catch so many fish.

BINGO!! Stop waiting to feel something and get tuned in on losing the weight of your presentation. If your answer is you can’t feel the weight to start…..I’ll argue you also need to upgrade ice sticks. As it pertains to big Crappies, it’s truly the loss of weight that often depicts precisely what you need to swing for the fences.
