Over the last few years I have gone almost exclusively to plastics for those giant deep water crappies I love to target. The results have been great-no bait freezing, more fish per bait, easy to change the profile or color without retying, and the list goes on. The problem I have run into is with all the different kinds of plastics and colors of plastics, what is the best way to store them and still be very mobile? Any ideas or thoughts?

Plastic storage

I just use clear plano 3700 series boxes. I keep all of my plastics in little crack baggies and then put the ones I normally use in my pocket or jig box (clam ice armor boxes) then keep the rest in my sled/bucket.
The little tiny baggies I use are like 1000 for $10 off ebay. If you have ever bought ice plastics from me (classifieds here) you know the bags I’m talking about.

3700 here…..
You got anything other than pink/purple?
If anyone is curious, a 3700 series plano holds about 8000 ice plastics with no bags.

Really depends on what part of town your shopping in….

I am organizing them by plastics style right now. My thought is that you will be able to flip through the binder and find the color and style a lot easier.

muc33Posts: 16November 21, 2012 at 4:12 pm #1113950I actually do a few different things. I fish almost exclusively plastic. I may get a puck full of Euro’s a year but that’s it. I have several checkbook sized snap down lid boxes that I put them in. Several companies make them. I also use little storage compartment pocket cases for my jigs. I usually fish with 2.5 or 3mm fiska’s Skandia or the small gill pills, I keep a few of those in each little case as well as my standards in plastic, white, red, black and pink. I have ratso, wedgies, and micro nuggies. I keep those standards in every suit I own, every portable I have and a spare in the counsil of my truck. I have at least 7 around. they are small, can hold quite a bit of product and jigs when you fish that small. I buy a pkg or two of tails, and a jig or two every time I stop at a bait shop, 5-10 bucks quite often is easier than 100 at a crack. Although my last plastic order a week ago to start the season was just over 100. Once you use them, find what works, often times we buy more than what we need, I have found the odd colors only work at odd times, so I stick now mostly to the basics and have very good returns. Get several small billfold or checkbook sized plastic cases and you will be just fine.

This is what I used before the 3700, mine was a spiderwire brand, It was good until you hit a certain point of plastics. Mine ended up being so thick it was basically round. Down side in the one I had was the zippers on the pouches faced out, as long as I was the one using it, it was ok, but it seemed like whenever anyone else used it it seemed like they forgot to zip it and the plastics would always end up on the ground

Shane, I don’t have it here at work with me, and I get to head to milwaukee for T-day in an hour. I will try to get a pic up on friday when we get home.
November 21, 2012 at 5:00 pm #1113984I use the plano series boxes as well but I use the small 6 section box I’m not sure of the number though. I use it for three main reasons.
Number one I take the plastics out of the baggies they come in (granted you lose the scent they are soaked in but as long as they are in a box section with other scented plastics they retain some of the scent). I organize them by color in the six sections some sections obviously have more than one shade of a color since there are so many out there. I hated trying to open the little plastic bags on the ice in 10 degree weather and I can hardly feel my fingers, so now I take them out and organize them in the box and they are ready to grab easily and my hands are back in the gloves in no time. Finally this smaller box fits in my ice armor suit much better than the bulky 3700 series boxes mentioned above. Its easy to open, small and easily organized three things I require to be mobile and efficient on the ice.November 21, 2012 at 5:04 pm #1113985Quote:
